Food and service very good ,room comfortable lovely bathroom ,but windows a bit draughty although we did not let this spoil our enjoyment . The evening entertainment was just right for our party largely consisting of older travellers. I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 night break with David Urquart travel and would certainly return to this hotel in the future

I stayed at the Cumberland Hotel on a five day break last week. The hotel was cosy, welcoming and very friendly. The food was superb, I had a different roast dinner every evening all cooked by the lovely lady who owns the hotel. The entertainment was very jolly and John aimed at exactly the right pitch, but the very best... More

I stayed at The Cumberland Hotel on a midweek break with David Urguhart Coach holidays from 10 November 2014. I had read some reviews before I went and was a bit worried about what I would find; some of the reviews were not very complimentary. I must say I was pleasantly surprised as it was a beautiful, comfortable place to... More

Workington is the end of the line, both literally and metaphorically. The Cumberland Hotel is next to the railway station but on the edge of the centre of town. Like the town, the hotel has a rather faded air. The repeated signs forbidding takeaway food, and the dire warnings of a £1,000 charge for failing to follow the instructions for... More

As the hotel was part of a trip by David Urquhart, I did not expect the Rirz. I must say I was pleasantly surprized by the hotel and the friendliness of the owner/chef. I could not fault her helpfulness and the remainder of the staff were also very helpful. The rooms whilst not very large, the bathroom was huge and... More

We were four adults on a bus trip of thirty people, many of them O.A.P.s with sight and mobility problems. Before going to bed we checked our nearest FIRE EXIT and found it was being used as a Cleaners Cupboard and our EXIT was Blocked. Wereported our concerns to the owners and our tour company. We then reported our concerns... More

The scaffolding outside the hotel gives you an idea of what to expect inside. Everything looks really tired and worn and needs renovating. My bath had several rust stains, the tap was leaking in the sink (even though there is a sign asking guests not to waste water) and the tiles were cracked. The bedding seemed clean if a little... Cheap, chintzy place that's good for a night with your mates before a coast to coast bike ride or for contractors. I wouldn't take the other half unless you want her to think you want a divorce. It's clean enough but everything is an antique and that's not a complement.

We went on a coach holiday with David Urquhart 21/4/14 for 4 nights. When we arrived at the Hotel it was surrounded by scaffolding. The room we were in was clean, the floor boards groaned and squeaked. The bath had several rust marks on it, and to top it off , our view out of our bedroom window was rusty... More
