George and his wife Joan manage this large country house as a guest house as well as being their family home. Immaculate, generously proportioned room, very nice breakfast cooked to perfection to order. If you're in the area, definitely worth a visit; a cut above the normal run-of the mill. If staying longer, it may be worth considering holiday lets... More

We stayed with George and Joan for three nights last week whilst attending my son's wedding. Very warm welcome. Lovely light airy room with amazing views. Comfortable bed with charming additions. Very good, hot shower, and lovely jacuzzi bath. Breakfast was amazing. Freshly cooked, and as much or as little as you wanted. We shall certainly return when in the... More

This was high on our list of possible places to stay from some of the reviews and we were going to reserve on line but decided to take a drive to take a look. As we pulled into a grand horse head gated entrance we were met by nothing but grey. The site looked unfinished and not at all inviting... More

Our stay at the Cumberland Lodge was a wonderful experience. We were warmly welcomed by the owner George and offered refreshments. He showed us to our room which was superb. Everything was of the very best quality. The bed was sheer luxury and we had a better sleep than we do at home. So quiet. Our room looked out across... More

Have just completed 3 day business trip to the area, had two of the most relaxing nights at George and Joan’s wonderful B&B. Luxury comparable with any 5 Star hotel in the UK. George and Joan offer superb hospitality and would probably be very successful if they run their own communication and leadership coaching business. Just a class act. Pub... More

We travelled for a family funeral. The house was built in recent years to the owners unique specification and furnished and fitted in an equally personal and expensive mode It would be impossible for the hosts to show greater concern for guests comfort and pleasure

George and Joan have a lovely home and were excellent hosts. They were very friendly and accommodating. Rooms spotless and spacious with a good outlook. Felt like home away from home! Made very welcome. Thank you George and Joan for a great stay. Will certainly recommend to family and friends

Have just returned from a stay at this fabulous house. Joan and George made us so welcome. We had booked the red room but were given a choice and decided on the blue room as it has a huge bed and a walk in wardrobe! The house is spotless as was the room. Lovely shower room with large power shower... More

Shouldn't say so as I need accommodation in the NW for work for the next few months but this place is a gem. Big, recently built mansion home with amazing views and a peaceful garden. Great hosts and good breakfast too but the main positive is the size of the room I had and the excellent family size bathroom. Quiet... More

My first ever stay at a B&B and I was pleasantly surprised, having usually stayed in bland hotels at the same cost the rooms and service offered at the Cumberland Lodge were a step up. Bedroom was fantastic, large, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and George and Joan were extremely welcoming and helpful, with George even taxiing me around... More
