An excellent guesthouse that has been decorated tastefully by the current owner. I stayed in a room that had very pretty bird wallpaper and embroidered bedding - I have similar bird wallpaper in my own bedroom so I felt very at home! Little details like the fresh posies of flowers, toiletries, biscuits and a hairdryer are nice. The place is... More

Thank you for your feedback. I feel it is an honest and fair appraisal of this mammoth work-in-progress. It will take many more months to reach perfection and I am delighted that my guests appreciate and understand that there is still much work to do. Constructive comments, suggestions - yes and criticism - are all welcomed so I can ensure... More

A chance discovery! I was interested in the Coast to Coast route (though not participating in it) and someone mentioned Whitehaven as a good location. The hotel is under new ownership and (according to one of the regulars who we met in the dining room) is undergoing a much needed transformation. The public areas and bedrooms are not yet completely... More

A warm and friendly operation and if you are after a personal service you could not get a better place to stay. Your attentive host ensures your stay is comfortable and welcoming. The best part of your stay is the food which your host cooks in house and is not your normal hotel menu. Yes the rooms need a little... More

Kathy is very welcoming to her new adventure. A gifted host, whose previous experience of event catering, is creating a very pleasant atmosphere. The food, home-made, is wonderful and as a long-stayer I am very pleased to be a visitor. Parking is good and the situation excellent for a quick morning get-away. Good Wi-Fi link.

Kathy (the owner) only took over last week & has started on a programme of extensive renovation/redecoration. When complete, the building has the potential to become quite magnificent! Warm, quiet room, excellent full English breakfast (& proper coffee, a bit like TS Eliot measuring life by coffee spoons, I rank hotels breakfasts by the quality of the coffee; this was... More

The place was very very clean and tidy. A warm welcome from the new owner Cath. Who is just making her own mark on the place. We had the twin room which was warm clean and everything that we needed. The breakfast was excellent lots of choice to keep everyone happy. The new owner says she's decorating which the property... More

I stayed one night prior to starting the C2C cycle ride. I can only echo some of the points made by other reviewers, the premises is dated, stuck in the 90s and I would expect the new owners to upgrade the premises if it is to continue as a B&B. What I got was a comfortable, tidy room, which was... More

Went to Whitehaven to see the brilliant Boomtown Rats-check them out if you get a chance. Anyway this guest house was well placed with parking in the street over the road and ok for the money. Owners were very friendly and showed a genuine interest in why we were visiting the area. Very handy for the lovely harbour area and... More

Despite the friendliness of the owners, it reflected the fact that it was up for sale. Not much had been spent on it recently and the decor and plumbing were dated. It is advertised as AA four-star accommodation but I wonder how long ago they got that. The breakfasts were good but then we were the mostly the only people... More
