This is not my first visit to Burnthwaite and it certainly won't be the last. Lovely rooms, great breakfast served by lovely hospitable staff who have so much knowledge to share with guests. Plenty to do locally, walking of course, the beach at sea scale, tea rooms and gorgeous scenery. Really good value here at burnthwaite whether you stay in... More

Used the accommodation at the farm to get an early start up Scafell Pike and it was a perfect location. The owner, Andrew, was most helpful and gave advice on routes to Scafell .... it is a working farm and it was great to see ..... the entire area is beautiful ..... it is worth noting that the National Trust... An incredible location in one of the most remote valleys in England. Beautiful views and hikes all around, snug rooms, great breakfasts and clean and warm! Our stay was made even better by the friendliness of the owner/farmer and his staff. Highly recommended!

The gentleman running the hotel was fantastic - he was very helpful in our planning efforts and made a delicious breakfast! The rooms are clean and comfortable. The location on the farm is great - the views from the second story room was breathtaking. It's just a short walk to town and the scenic walk is worth doing a few... More

Burnthwaite Farm is the perfect base for fell walking around Wasdale and Mosedale. It's quiet, comfortable, snug and clean - basic doesn't have to mean uncomfortable. Andrew is a great host, very helpful, and does a very good breakfast. I stayed here in 2011, enjoyed it immensely, and returned this year - and will definitely stay here again when and... More

Andrew and his family are outstanding. I am going back for the Holidays this winter. I am looking forward to the hiking. It is a basic farmhouse but if you are looking for an outstanding value, this is the place to visit.

A wonderful B and B in the most amazing setting. The rooms are basic but clean, breakfast was great, don't be out off by the shared bathrooms etc, although it's a very basic it's just a great place, to get away from the stress of modern day life. Go for it!

Beautiful Bed and Breakfast in a stunning location. Good warm and clean rooms. Andrew is the owner/farmer and combines sheep farming with running the B and B - he is very helpful and friendly and cooks a great breakfast. Would recommend.

Just the most amazing location situated at the head of the Wasdale valley. Perfect for any serious fell walkers/runners out there, only the best of the Lake District outside the front door for your enjoyment (Gabel, Pillar, Scafell's etc). Just a 5 minute walk back to the only Pub within 5 miles, great food offered here. Breakfast at the Burnthwaite... More

Excellent breakfasts, brilliant location. Really off the beaten track! Andrew is a very friendly host and the lounge area is very comfortable and cosy. There are even some interesting books to read. Recommend B&B!
