Stayed at burthwaite farm the weekend after the floods hit the lake. After a hard day walking in the snow and wind it was a delight to arrive at the farm. Andy was just the type of host you need post walk when your filthy and wet through. The room whilst basic was cosy and ideal for what we needed.... More

We arrived mid afternoon on a friday, being on a working sheep farm, the landlords where out, but a friendly letter and guide got us to our room and settled in, after a walk down to the pub for dinner we finally met our host, and he made us feel at home. The breakfast was outstanding! Plus he had plenty... More

We stayed in the self catering cottage for what was meant to be 2 nights, but on the Sunday had torrential rain. Over a delicious breakfast the next morning Andrew the farmer/owner announced to us all the valley road had collapsed and had numerous landslides, we were stuck! We then had the most awesome 24 hours with our fellow B&B... More

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of October, in the lovely self catering 2 bed cottage (one double, one twin room). We had a very warm welcome and everything we needed was in place, the kitchen is well equipped (oven, microwave, fridge freezer etc) and Georgina and Andrew are very generous with things like kitchen roll, washing... We love this place and have stayed many many times. Andrew the owner is a great bloke, friendly, cheerful and provides (In my Opinion) the best breakfast and venue location in the Lakes. The rooms in this wonderful Farm accommodation are nice and farm house rustic, very clean and the facilities are great with deep baths and hot showers at... More

A wonderful holiday. Burnthwaite Farm is a most gorgeous 16th century farmhouse, so comfortable, cosy and homely. The breakfasts are lovely, the rooms are cosy but most of all Andrew and family are so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Will definitely visit again.

Stayed at the self-catering cottage rather than the B&B itself. Cottage was lovely and quaint and had everything we needed for the week we stayed there. The surrounding area is so beautiful and this was the perfect base not only for the (very tiring!) trek up Scafell Pike, but also a short walk from Wasdale Head Inn for a well... More

I was really impressed. I was travelling alone so needed somewhere that was easy to find and close to where I'd be walking. It couldn't be much closer! Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable rooms. Excellent cooked breakfast. Amazing value.

I used thus as a base for a photography trip for a few days. The surrounding location is absolutely stunning and there is no need to venture away from the farm in order to find stunning scenery; indeed one of the beautiful landscape images on my living room wall was taken from the yard. The accommodation was warm, friendly and... More

Burnthwaite Farm was our first stopover on the Coast 2 Coast. Walked up from Seascale on the Atlantic Ocean and the Wasdale valley is a great first day's introduction to walking 20 miles a day through the Lake District. The farming family are very friendly and helpful, the room was perfectly decent with an en suite bathroom. The location is... More
