Crooked Birch was everything we wanted and more. Upon arrival we were greeted by Hilary (who is one of the nicest people I've ever met ) who showed us around. Such a lovely greeting, plus wine and biscuits, started our holiday off amazingly! The cottage is extremely remote which is what we wanted. Phone signal can be found in certain... More

We stayed in the Crooked Birch Cottage, there are a number on the same farm. Gareth was very helpful both leading up to our stay and whilst we were there. We were provided with some basics (and wine!) on arrival which was very welcome. The cottage is in a great location. It is very, very remote. We drove down a... More

Thank You for your comments Eleanor. I would say that not all the glasses provided are plastic. We usually provide a bottle of wine as a welcome, so try to make sure everything is ready for your arrival. The plastic glasses are for using outside on the patio and also as it was suggested to us a while ago so... More

We booked this accommodation over a month ago but on the day before we were due to travel to the Lakes when we asked them to confirm arrival arrangements the owners told us they were now double booked via another agent and they couldn’t accommodate us after all. This despite the fact that we had exchanged personal communications about the... More

Dear Sarah, Thank You for your comment. Again, I would like to apologise for the cross booking and the distress that it caused you. It was a mistake, and I can only apologise for that. We do get a lot of enquiries, and booking requests and I always try and fit everyone in. Your booking just so happened to have... More

We stayed in the wetherlam for 2 nights there is also another cottage on the farm. The accomodation was great perfectly situated to explore the surroundings even if some might think it is a bit remote! One thing i would say is the 2nd bedroom is on the small side and if you have toddlers/children they might feel a bit... More

Me and my boyfriend stayed in the Wetherlam cottage for 3 nights last weekend. We had a lovely time - wine, biscuits and milk were waiting for us when we arrived which was a nice suprise. There was a slight smell of the log fire in the cottage which you would expect but not a bad/horrible smell at all. The... More

Just got back from a three night stay at crooked birch cottage and my girlfriend and I had an absolutely fantastic time. On arrival the owner Hilary went out of her way to welcome us. She couldn't do enough to help us settle in and show us everything we needed to know about the cottage. Unlike previous, unbelievable comments, this... More

My partner and I stayed in the Langdale with our dog in the summer of last year. I hadn't read any reviews before I booked and only read them when I returned home... And I agree with some of the comments from the negative reviews- the glass of the oven door slid out on me whilst I was cooking, but... More

I am actually amazed by the previous bad reviews and had to check this was the same place me and my wife have stayed at twice. The accomodation is nice and cosy, we have stayed in two different cottages and found both to be lovely. The location is fantastic, remote enough to be away from it, but close enough to... More

My husband and I stayed at The Langdale for a week in June 2011, which is the one bedroom property on this site. We booked it to get away for a totally relaxing break and I was looking to book again for this November. Looking on cottages4you website, it would appear that it is fully booked so I looked on... We just got back from a fantastic week in the Lake District where we stayed at Crooked Birch. We booked the smallest of their properties, Wetherlam which is a fantastic old building that used to be the grooms quarters. We fell in love with the cottage and the location, totally remote up in the fells, is perfect for a romantic... More
