The Red Lion is a real find; a small English pub on the fringes of Lake Coniston and among beautiful South Lakeland scenery. Steve and his staff are friendly and extremely helpful. The breakfasts are fressh cooked and tasty and best of all, the prices are reasonable. It's just off the Cumbria Way so if you're walking this way stop... More

We stayed and dined at the Red Lion on a last minute break in the Lakes. We were made very welcome and our room was bright and clean with all mod. cons. We had an excellent dinner on each night well prepared and served by very pleasant staff. Even though our bedroom was at the front of the inn, overlooking... More

Both Steve and Lucy were very welcoming and were excellent hosts. We required two singles and were given a discount when we booked direct as there was only one available-Thanks! The rooms were very clean and comfortable and looked out over the fields. We both opted for the full rack of ribs washed down with some excellent pale ales and... More

A really nice welcoming place to eat. Food was typical pub grub but very well done. Staff pleasant. Toilets clean.Outdoor seating area in a sunny position, traffic at the front a bit noisy, we will go back.

Take the view that this is not a 5 star hotel and you will enjoy it all the more. it is an inn, in the old meaning of the term. The bedroom could not be faulted - clean, warm, with ALL the facilities: coffee, tea and biscuits, bottled water, replenished each day; TV loadsa channels. Bathroom well furbished, but a... More

We went to the Dickensian weekend in ulverston. We stayed in the twin room which was not ensuite but we had exclusive use of a large family bathroom across the landing. Lovely welcome, substantial breakfast, nothing too much trouble hosts. Reasonably priced .

After a good nights sleep and a very hearty breakfast cooked exactly as we asked for (Thank you to the chef), we were on our way.... More

Wanted to stay in the countryside after visiting Lakeside Motor Museum. Pre-booked. Arrived mid afternoon, dead quiet old building. Immediate reaction mistake. Early evening the Lion came alive. Pleasant locals filled the dining area to capacity. Establishment is pet friendly. Regulars (pets in this case a perfectly behaved Lab and Spaniel) received their favourite treats. Accommodation above the pub area... More

Just spent the weekend at the Red Lion, our second visit. It was just as good as the first, lovely welcome, great food and clean comfortable room. Steve and Lucy are excellent hosts and we wish them well with their plans for the future. We hope to see them again soon.

Visited numerous times between July 20th-26th, group of up to 8 with up to 4 dogs. Were made to feel very welcome. We were staying locally so just a phone call to book a table, the food was superb and the beer (Dizzy Blonde) excellent, will definitly call in again when in the area. I would recomend a visit !
