Went to meet a couple of friends who had come over from Ireland. There's not much to do around the area but the new ing lodge is superb. Penrith is a nice place to visit and there is also a lovely abbey nearby that is worth checking out.

Brought the family up for the weekend in December and we had a ball. We had all ages there from 6 years to 80 years and the Lodge was perfect. Loads of space, great log burning fire, bar, big kitchen - what more could you ask for?. Nothing was to much trouble for Jamie and Scott - just brilliant and... More

We stayed here on our C2C walk and were made to feel extremely welcome by Scott. We had room 5, very spacious with lovely big shower and plenty of hot water. The evening meal was very good and the sticky toffee pudding was delicious. Breakfast again faultless with eggs straight from the free roaming chicken outside. Lovely comfy lounge to... More

Very good and convenient place to stay overnight en route to Scotland. We had an en suite room which was comfortably furnished. Relaxed and friendly place. Jamie cooked us a good, hearty supper and we had a full breakfast. Good beer in the bar. Other guests mainly hikers doing the Coast to Coast.

Scott, the owner, was very pleasant, chatty, helpful and hardworking. We camped in the back garden but had access, as the main building wasn't too busy, to the lounge in the evening. Breakfast was simple which is what we paid for. One toilet and shower which were in the same building outside. No hand towels in the loo. Main issue?... More

Clean, functional and great location to explore Cumbria. Shap Abbey is only 1mile walk away. Shared bathrooms, single beds seemed quite small and not much space to hang clothes up and store things. Had to store bikes in van. Full English breakfast was ok, very helpful in making bacon sandwiches for us to take away for cyclists who missed breakfast.... More

This was a fun place to stay on our Coast to Coast trip. Our host was friendly and fun, very handy in the kitchen too. Our room (5) was really fresh and new with lovely views over the fields to wake up to. Comfy bed, lovely big shower and lots of great fairly traded tea and coffee available in the... More

After a hard days walk from Patterdale we fell into the lodge and were welcomed by one of the 2 brothers who run this B and B and camping ground. Rooms very adequate and clean and showers over the passage fine. If you're lucky you'll get the en suite rooms. The food in the evening was terrific - great pies... More

Spent August Bank holiday long weekend with a large group of 6 families. 29 members ranging from a baby to Grand parents. Highly recommended if you are looking for a authentic country place with mix of Bunks for kids to go crazy, B&B suites for parents. Open space for burning teenage batteries and BBQ for tucking into. . Shap is... More

One night stay over during the coast to coast walk. Owners were really friendly and accommodating. Great value for money. Room was clean and a good size. Breakfast was nice but busy and despite having the breakfasts staggered there were still hangars on from the previous time slot so there was limited time for staff to clean tables etc. A... More
