HF country house which dates back to Tudor times with lots of character features. Convenient setting a couple of minutes walk from the Sedbergh town centre and an excellent base for both the Dales and the Southern lakes. Excellent meals provided and service excellent throughout my stay.

Thorns Hall is a HF “country House” rather than a hotel. It’s ideal location provides a fine base for the “Which” recommended holiday co-operative’s activity holidays. Dating from 1535, the recent refurbishment required care and sympathy. The few remaining minor details should soon be resolved. The accommodation is clean and comfortable. An interesting menu gives a range of well prepared... More

Beautiful property in village of Sedbergh , full of pretty gift shops, chemist, cafes, pubs and very large book shop. Also many pretty villages in easy driving distance. The property is is a beautiful old building full of character, open fires , wood panelled walls, comfy sitting rooms. Fresh bedrooms in assorted sizes inside and out of main building. The... More

Mis-advertised/represented as a hotel when in fact it is a hostel for HF Holidays. Very disappointed not to be informed that this isn't a standard hotel and there would be no-one on reception duty for most of the day. Paid standard hotel rate and experienced stress of trying to check in without anyone to check in with. Double room was... More

Had a wonderful week of walking and stayed at Thorns Hall where David Newton keeps a close eye to ensure you are having a good visit. The three meals were all quite good. The breakfast options are outstanding and the dinners were a real treat. The staff is extremely attentive. You can walk from the house or take a bus... More

A nice country house a short walk from Sedbergh. It's organised along the same lines as other HF houses I've been to. Order your evening meal before you go out in the morning and lunch before retiring. I was in a twin room below the kitchen which was roomy enough. The POWER shower warrants the capitol letters, it was as... More

I stayed at Thorns Hall last weekend for a murder mystery event. It's a lovely old building, cosy and full of character. I stayed an en suite twin bedded room which was clean and comfortable. Lots of space and with everything that I needed. We had breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner there and all of the meals were well... More

In Oct. 2010, I took a walking tour with HF Holidays called Herriott way. We stayed at the Thorn Hall in Sedburgh England. What a truly wonderful experience. The rooms were cozy with ensuite bathrooms. The hall was built in the 1500s. We had full meals and a lunch prepared for our walking days. I heartily recommend HF Holidays and... More

I stayed here as a base for a walking tour of the Dales with HF Holidays. The whole experience was wonderful…the food was good, the accommodation comfortable and the manager of Thorns Hall very helpful. Interesting evening entertainment arranged. And best of all, the walking tours were really well thought out. Can’t wait to return.

Myself and my partner stayed here on the 22nd of June for one night as we were meeting up with family who had been holidaying in the area. I didn't realise it was a walkers hostel when I booked it but we found the place to be clean, warm and welcoming. Our room was no. 12 in the stable block... More
