We booked late for half term through late rooms and there was very little choice left in the Lakes. However I consider us to be very lucky. The hotel was of a very high standard and the staff were very accommodating. Nothing was a problem. The surrounding area was very picturesque and the Eskdale railway and walk to the waterfall... My wife booked this hotel for us, and on arrival in the car park to the rear of the hotel I was not expecting much. However I'm pleased to say that this hotel proved my initial impression to be very wrong. The décor is to a very good standard and pretty modern, the room was of a good size and... More

We are coming to the end of our 3 night stay as I write this and yesterday booked to come back later in the year.We came primarily after our daughter booked a steam train experience for my husband for Fathers Day last year complete with cream tea,the sun shone and we had a great day. The hotel is clean, comfortable and... More

The exterior of the hotel is somewhat bland but the inside is WOW, modern clean, uncluttered, warm and friendly. Rooms are generous and equally clean and tidy with a modern bathroom. Considering it is virtually the only hotel in town, apart from a pub and a couple of B&Bs which they own, they really have set their stall out to... More

I was here on business and the stay here made it much more pleasant. The staff are lovely, charming and helpful. Clean, warm and comfortable. Beautiful location. The hotel was primarily full of business travellers during the week but do not let this put you off staying here for pleasure. A great base if you want to holiday in Cumbria.

Our stay this year at the Penny, started on the 22nd of December, we had family coming for the Santa Express train ride from Ravenglass to Dalegarth on the La'al Ratty. John, Dev with Molly and Jack arrived late afternoon and we all gathered in the Morning Room, where we had a family games evening the Children opening their present's... More

Stayed here in November whilst visiting family in Whitehaven (apx 12 miles away) as wanted somewhere different than the Premier Inn, plus The Pennington is dog friendly. We stayed in room 5 - which was just beautiful, plus the kids had their own space. our evening meal was just average, we felt that the chef had possibly mismatched the menu... More

My usual bar was shut (Very disappointed) so met with friends for an attempted quiet New Year Drink. For a bar that does not normally have music (great), i was disappointed to find that my ears are assaulted by music that the staff had no control over at average 86 Db with a peak of 100 Db, completely killing the... We stayed here for two nights whilst attending a wedding at nearby Muncaster Castle. The rooms are large and airy, ours had a lovely Queen size bed. On arrival we were allocated a room with only a shower, when I asked if there was a possibility of a room with a bath we were quickly accommodated with no fuss and... More
