Here for 1 night birthday treat. Stayed in the room known as the bridal suite, not particularly glitzy, just a lovely, charming, good sized room overlooking the front of the hotel with a view of the estuary. En-suite was a great size, warm and almost as big as the bedroom. The whole place was spotlessly clean, always a big plus!... More

My wife and I stayed here. The food in the restaurant, both for breakfast and dinner, was excelletn and served by really charming young staff. The bar was manned by some of the same staff and had a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The bedroom had no light over the dressing table to help my wife with her make up,... More

A great place to stay for a break, but as I overheard another couple say, it was somewhat "corporate" - what could have been a great character place under a thick layer of magnolia paint. The food in the bar / restaurant was all very nice, although the deconstructed cheesecake was possibly the funniest thing ever. All the staff are... More

A charming inn with lovely locals and delightful rooms. However, in spite of frequent warnings to at least put a strip of tape to mark where the tiled steps were, these were ignored. A member of our group had a very nasty fall which could have ended really badly on the poorly defined steps that led to her room in... More

Stayed a Sunday night early October. We are regulars here and it is generally very pleasant. Good very clean rooms and helpful staff. Why, oh why though when they give you top quality Lakeland tea in the rooms do they have to spoil it with cheap catering tea at breakfast (the answer is to ask them to make your tea... More

Me and lovely wife stayed for one night 11/10/14. I booked dinner bed and breakfast £130. We arrived to have lunch about 1230, check in was 1400 even though we were very early our room was ready and they let us check in which was very nice. We had a sharing platter for two (ploughman's) very tasty, and and few... More

The Pennington is that rare thing. An old fashioned hotel, with old fashioned service and a delightful place to stay. The staff are all very young, but punch way beyond their weight; nothing seems to be too much trouble. Similarly the cooks. They are still young enough to be enthusiastic and the food served will not disappoint the most fastidious.... More

This is a nice independent hotel in the lake district. The room was clean, the shower was good and the bed was comfortable. Freshly cooked breakfast was a bonus, though they were out of black pudding for the two days we were there. We were lucky enough to have a view out onto the water too which was nice. Windows... More

Have just returned from a weekend at The Pennington which could not have been better. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Because we had our dog with us we ate in the very pleasant bar, the food was the same as the restaurant and was excellent: yes, sometimes we did have a short wait after ordering but this was because...
