Our stay this year at the Penny, started on the 22nd of December, we had family coming for the Santa Express train ride from Ravenglass to Dalegarth on the La'al Ratty. John, Dev with Molly and Jack arrived late afternoon and we all gathered in the Morning Room, where we had a family games evening the Children opening their present's... More

Stayed here in November whilst visiting family in Whitehaven (apx 12 miles away) as wanted somewhere different than the Premier Inn, plus The Pennington is dog friendly. We stayed in room 5 - which was just beautiful, plus the kids had their own space. our evening meal was just average, we felt that the chef had possibly mismatched the menu... More

My usual bar was shut (Very disappointed) so met with friends for an attempted quiet New Year Drink. For a bar that does not normally have music (great), i was disappointed to find that my ears are assaulted by music that the staff had no control over at average 86 Db with a peak of 100 Db, completely killing the... We stayed here for two nights whilst attending a wedding at nearby Muncaster Castle. The rooms are large and airy, ours had a lovely Queen size bed. On arrival we were allocated a room with only a shower, when I asked if there was a possibility of a room with a bath we were quickly accommodated with no fuss and... More

Stayed here over a weekend excellent value for money Clean rooms and comfortable. Food in restaurent was excellent as was breakfast. The staff were all young and very freindly and proffessional. Many thanks to sarah and janet who made our stay special but all staff were very good Would not hesitate to stay again

Here for 1 night birthday treat. Stayed in the room known as the bridal suite, not particularly glitzy, just a lovely, charming, good sized room overlooking the front of the hotel with a view of the estuary. En-suite was a great size, warm and almost as big as the bedroom. The whole place was spotlessly clean, always a big plus!... More

My wife and I stayed here. The food in the restaurant, both for breakfast and dinner, was excelletn and served by really charming young staff. The bar was manned by some of the same staff and had a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The bedroom had no light over the dressing table to help my wife with her make up,... More

A great place to stay for a break, but as I overheard another couple say, it was somewhat "corporate" - what could have been a great character place under a thick layer of magnolia paint. The food in the bar / restaurant was all very nice, although the deconstructed cheesecake was possibly the funniest thing ever. All the staff are... More

A charming inn with lovely locals and delightful rooms. However, in spite of frequent warnings to at least put a strip of tape to mark where the tiled steps were, these were ignored. A member of our group had a very nasty fall which could have ended really badly on the poorly defined steps that led to her room in... More

Stayed a Sunday night early October. We are regulars here and it is generally very pleasant. Good very clean rooms and helpful staff. Why, oh why though when they give you top quality Lakeland tea in the rooms do they have to spoil it with cheap catering tea at breakfast (the answer is to ask them to make your tea... More
