Walked past the hotel while on holiday in the Lake District this summer and hardly noticed the place. When I found we were to be staying on business, I wasn't sure what to expect, but on arrival I found a modern hotel that has recently been refurbished, hidden in a beautiful old building. The welcome was great, though as we... more

This recently refurbished hotel is owned by Muncaster Castle and the quality shows. I turned up on spec, in muddy walking gear, having been let down by another place and was given unreservedly welcoming hospitality and a decent reduction on the advertised rates. Good start. They were very happy to dry my socks and boots, and the room was smart,... more

Four of us enjoyed a first class meal in the bar area (our choice to sit in this area) and the service could not be faulted. 2 of us were vegetarians and there were several options for us. A glass of wine was spilt accidently and the staff were over like a shot to assist . We will definitely be... more

Had a meal in here in July 2009. It was terrible. The service was all over the place, the waiter didn't have a clue what was going on, it took 45 minutes for them to take our food order and then escort us to the restaurant. The meal itself added insult to injury as I had the Sea Bass (at... more

Just returned from two night stay at The Pennington. Accomodation spotless, service very good, unlike previous reviews the service was very quick despite being busy Saturday night. Staff friendly. Would definitely go back again. more

Wow what a find, this hotel is really lovely. We booked a last minute weekend away and got a special offer suite for only £60 per night B & B. We were not sure what to expect when we pulled up in the tiny village facing the beautiful calm estuary...but all fears put to rest when we were shown to... more

We stayed for a night over the Bank Hoilday weekend and in spite of the hotel looking smart when we entered, they gladly accomodated our dog. The room was spacious , modern and finished to a good (Marriott -type) standard but with none of the impersonality that goes with such establishments. The staff were helpful, polite and friendly. Our evening... more

We have been travelling to the Lake District for 10 years or so. We have not found many good places to stay, especially in the eastern part around Ravenglass. So I was very pleased to hear about the Pennington. The current owners have completely overhauled the old building turning it inot a good quality modern hotel. It servesdecent food and... more

I stayed here with my wife for two nights. Ok, so I've got to agree with some of the other reviewers. Service for food was painfully slow at times but the staff were generally enthusiastic and helpful. The food was good too. The hotel has been recently refurbished and has a really nice atmosphere. Our room was well finished &... more

Stayed in this hotel for one night, room was lovely but the dinning experience was very different. Went into the dinning room at 7.50pm and left at 10.10pm having given up on dessert. Took 30 mins to be given a wine list, followed by starters half an hour later and main course an hour after that. Other tables around us... more
