The Wheatsheaf is a very pleasant country pub just off the main A6, the staff are generally friendly and helpful. The food is good and the"penny menu" is good value. A penny for a starter and penny for sweet while paying full price for the main course. We visit regularly when in the area.

Made a special trip for lunch, the starters were ok I had brie which was obviously put into a bowl and microwaved my partner black pudding which he said was good for our mains I had the fish cake which was served on crushed new potatoes my partner Cumberland sausage in which he found pieces of plastic staff were apologetic... We stayed two nights. We have stayed and eaten here many times over the last 30 years. The welcome at 7.30 on a Saturday night was okay, but certainly not overwhelming. The room (Leighton) was good, warm and clean. Dinner was disappointing. My steak was fine but the fish was overcooked. The wine we ordered was confused by the waiter.... More

My wife and her family have been to this public house for over 20 years, on-and-off, but the food quality has gradually become less acceptable. The final straw was last Monday when 3 of us ordered "cheese-and-onion pie"; expecting to be served with the usual dish with pastry top-and-bottom. To our horror we were served with a dish comprising mashed... More

This was our 4th visit and thoroughly enjoyable as always. The staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming, couldn't do enough to assist. The food is reasonably priced, fresh produce and a decent selection. We will be back again.

Not much to say about this charming village hostelry...other than, well, it is just that. Delightfully relaxed...an olde worlde inn feel without being over the top. Food was hearty and delicious...slightly overpriced but in keeping with the relative cost of living in these parts... The inn is perfectly situated for walks too...including the fairy steps...so very worth a stop off... More

Recently had lunch with family at the Wheatsheaf and as always the food was simply amazing. A great menu with a good choice at good prices with relaxed period surroundings made for a great visit. Good service too ! Been here before and certainly will return hopefully for Christmas. Will definitely recommend.

Had a wonderful stay at The Wheatsheaf, on a trip to visit family in the area, and will return again before long. The setting is delightful, and a real old world village feel. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. It has a real character about it, and felt very homely. The room was clean,... More

We booked in for one night in order to attend a local event early the next morning- how pleased we were that it was not for longer. We were given a room overlooking the churchyard, words almost fail me, it was tired and dingy, peeling wallpaper, stained walls carpets and ceiling, dirty paintwork, dirty shower screen and grey grouting in... Superb, we booked this hotel via Last Minute, have travelled past The Wheatsheaf on many occasions without knowing it was there and we now wish we had known about it previously. The welcome, by Richard, who I believe to be the owner, was very welcoming and informative, the building inside and out is lovely, the village is peaceful, the guests... More
