This hotel was great, clean, modern rooms, friendly staff and a lovely freshly cooked breakfast. The downsides are, no lifts making it inaccessible to disabled visitors, a tiny car park and the rooms despite an air cooling system were unbearably warm.

Spent a single night at the Golden Lion at the end of August - was well received by Reception Staff, had an average breakfast but did not partake in an evening meal. The room was comfortable and only marred by an extremely dirty shower head subsequently referred to staff who promised action.

We stayed for 4 nights in a great triple room - double with adjoining single (both with own ensuites) plus 2 more lovely single rooms. Excellent breakfast offering porridge, grapefruit, prunes, cereals, yoghurts plus a full English, tea and toast!! Good base for exploring the Lake District. Lovely owner and helpful friendly staff. Great short break enjoyed by all.

This was our first time staying at the Golden Lion for the festival and we weren't disappointed. You couldn't ask for a more friendly welcome and it is ideally located for the festival. As others have stated, if you want a quiet location during the festival then this might not be the place for you. We ate in the restaurant... More

During the last weekend in July, we always stay in the Golden Lion and have always enjoyed the welcome we receive. The Hotel is ideally placed with great views over the harbour. It is very clean with helpful staff and good food. However if you don't like music or a bit of late noise stay away, during this weekend. Otherwise... More

With friendly staff, beautiful, modern, sparkling clean rooms this is a super hotel close to many amenities. The owner is so pleasant and the food is delicious and, with typical Cumbrian hospitality , the breakfasts are enormous!!

We stayed a couple of nights at the Golden Lion for the maryport blues festival. The hotel is in the perfect location for this event. Our room (nr 7) was up a few flights of stairs, so not really ideal if one has mobility issues. The room itself was spotless, and looked like it was recently renovated. The bathroom was... More

The owner and everyone here are lovely and the position is excellent ....high on the side of the hill overlooking the water. However, someone was smoking in the bar area and that was the only place where the wi-fi worked...so was rather unpleasant. I ended up sitting on the staircase where it was quiet and no smoke. Very noisy outside... More
