We stayed here for 2 nights last week and although there was no lift, the food, staff and owner were exceptional. Philip the owner, Diane, the receptionist and bar and waiting staff,, Jessica and Joanne were so friendly and helpful. The room was pleasant, clean and warm, but the homely feel of the hotel itself, was extremely relaxing. We had... More

Food was nice, but the high chair they brought for my little boy was absolutely disgusting. I actually had to clean it myself before i sat him in it. It was filthy, Put me off my meal. I mentioned it to the waiter, but nothing was said.

Went for a bite to eat with a few friends on a Saturday night. An eager but clearly inexperienced, young waiting staff did well! .....much better than the food that was served at any rate. We were all a little disappointed by the quality of the food served, especially considering the prices!

This hotel was great, clean, modern rooms, friendly staff and a lovely freshly cooked breakfast. The downsides are, no lifts making it inaccessible to disabled visitors, a tiny car park and the rooms despite an air cooling system were unbearably warm.

Spent a single night at the Golden Lion at the end of August - was well received by Reception Staff, had an average breakfast but did not partake in an evening meal. The room was comfortable and only marred by an extremely dirty shower head subsequently referred to staff who promised action.

We stayed for 4 nights in a great triple room - double with adjoining single (both with own ensuites) plus 2 more lovely single rooms. Excellent breakfast offering porridge, grapefruit, prunes, cereals, yoghurts plus a full English, tea and toast!! Good base for exploring the Lake District. Lovely owner and helpful friendly staff. Great short break enjoyed by all.

This was our first time staying at the Golden Lion for the festival and we weren't disappointed. You couldn't ask for a more friendly welcome and it is ideally located for the festival. As others have stated, if you want a quiet location during the festival then this might not be the place for you. We ate in the restaurant... More
