We came across this inn last November and enjoyed the loveliest scones, beautifully served, and knew we would want to return. We did so and had a wonderful time. Our room was perfect, with a lovely window seat from which we could enjoy the views, and everything was spotlessly clean. The meals were delicious - the breakfasts were just what you... More

Been going here for over 10 years, the food is excellent, even though it has gone a bit 'up-market' and away from traditional Lakeland grub. What you get is well prepared, well presented and value for money. The service was second to none, and overall good value.

We wanted to get away from London for a few days and stayed at the Three Shires. All the staff made us feel as though we were at home as soon as we entered the inn. Our 3 year old daughter was doted on which made it even more relaxing. The room was immaculately clean (I've been a housekeeping manager,... More

15 real ale fans from BAE Systems in Barrow took a trip up to the 3 Shires yesterday, excellent choice of beer, made even better when the Loweswater Gold went on, the 2 young ladies running the bar were excellent, very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We had pre-booked food, Cumberland sausage and mash, served with carrots and... More

We stayed here for just one night during February half term and had the best time. The staff were especially friendly and welcoming and the Three Shires, itself, was better than we expected. The beer was good, the food delicious (esp the yummy breakfast - very good quality products) and the room comfortable. We stayed in the room with the... More

We called in here for a drink whilst travelling around the lakes. The reviews we read were very good but our experience wasn't as good as we were expecting. The selection of real ales was very good but a bit on the expensive side, two pints of beer and two packets of crisp cost £8.40. The bar area was full... More

My girlfriend and I were searching out a trip to somewhere like the Lake/Peak District or Yorkshire Dales, some good walking. After looking over several accomodations we were actually recommended the Three Shires Inn by my girlfriends parents who had been 3 years previously and raved about it. So we managed to get a great deal, and headed up to... More

Years ago when on business back then in the Lakes, used to use this place for lunches, often with customers and always found it to be good or better. This past summer (2013) we had visitors from Oz and on a whirlwind tour of the Lakes called in for lunch. The place blew them away and all that was consumed... More

My husband, young son and I stayed for three nights between Christmas and New Year, my brother in law also stayed for one of the nights. We had all of our meals and drinks at the Inn and whilst we had a pleasant enough stay there were several things that left us with a bad impression of The Three Shires.... More

We were very surprised by this review as our family and staff try very hard to make sure that all our guests are well looked after and enjoy their stay. It is disappointing then when guests find so much amiss with our service and very frustrating when concerns are not raised until the guests have left when its too late... More
