We stayed at the Three Shires Inn during our Cumbria Way hike and were more than pleased with our stay here. On arrival, I was happy to see the outside tables fully occupied by fellow walkers and the bar inside doing a roaring trade. This is the sort of place people hope to reach after a long hard walk and... more

We regularly stay at the Three Shires as it is quite possibly the best place to stay in the Lake District. The rooms are clean and comfortable with fantastic views, the food is great and the staff are always very friendly and helpful. This visit, we needed to leave early on our last day and they left a breakfast tray... more

I use this site allot to review forthcoming holidays and accommodation and was therefore dudious about selecting this Inn based upon the other reviews recorded here. However, let me say first off that this Inn is situated in the most beautiful of settings. Quite remote from the main through routes of the Park, and therefore peaceful and reflective. Gorgeous scenery... more

Very nice clean room, modern and tidy but not to keen on sheets and blankets and the pillows were no good! Breakfast was nice, even if you did have to talk in whispers in case the people on the next table could hear you, maybe a radio would help. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We only ate here... more

Extremely quiet and almost entirely devoid of atmosphere. Warm and comfortable guests lounge downstairs but upstairs one was like a nursing home and not at all welcoming - a bit creepy. Bedroom was clean but didn't care for blankets. En suite spotless and well equipped. Our stay was for one night only and it was indeed a dark and stormy... more

Good points - nice room (twin - room 3) but £99 B&B was a bit steep for what we got. Old-fashioned pub exterior and fantasic rural setting - some superb walks from the door. Evening meal only just ok - tasted bought in - like yet another '3663' food giant special - 'boil in the bag' kept coming to mind... more

Great place to stay with fantastic walks in the Langdale valley on your doorstep. Comfortable if a little small bedrooms. Had a good stay but spoilt by unfriendly staff. We suspect because of the location that they do not have to try too hard more
