Spent one night here on the C2C in a tiny room overlooking the narrow road and a small vacant area opposite where smokers congregated. On the plus side the pub is old, atmospheric and quaint. The food was reasonable and the breakfast was good. This hotel advertises itself as being extremely friendly to guests. We found the staff to be... More

Back in the lakedistrict with a good friend I suggested we eat at the White lion as I had good memories of it. Looks just the same . Friendly but a little offhand. Not as busy as I remembered. The food came very quickly. Very indifferent, bland and stodgy. Disappointed.. Then as if this was not enough my beer glass... More

Had a comfortable nights stay on sat 21st June. Room was small and basic but fine. Shower was dreadful though, too hot or too cold, this was explained on the welcoming form but it was very disappointing. On the plus side had both our evening meal & breakfast here and could not fault either, very nice. Stunning location, only 15... More

Stayed for one night whilst walking. The accommodation is OK and was perfectly adequate if not luxurious and reasonable vfm. However they know how to charge for food but don't know how to peel a fresh vegetable. When will pubs realise that chips and vegetables are an important part of a meal and can be made from fresh vegetables and... More

This is a walkers hotel on the coast to coast route and we expected ' no frills'. However the evening meal was poor with a ighastly fish and chips and cold lamb stew. We really needed to get away promptly so were down for breakfast at 8. It took until about 9.30 to get breakfast and was like Fawlty Towers... More

My colleague & I had an evening to spare on a tour around the Lakes & chose to spend am evening having a beer & meal. We asked the barman if we could have a football match on the tv with radio commentary only. He was kind enough to oblige. In the bar were a couple known to the staff... More

We stayed here for one night B & B and what a great place in a beautiful, relaxing location. After a day spent walking up to Helvelyn we checked in with a lovely member of staff before having a bar meal which was very tasty. Then we spent an evening in the warm, comfortable bar with real ale & very... More

Been here a couple of times, usually just for a beer after a long walk but this time I fancied a starter and a meal with a few drinks. The food wasn't bad and the drinks were OK but the service was just terrible, when I asked for a drink I was stared as if I'd just asked what E=MC2... More

Used to come four or five times a year for drinks and or food as the location Is just superb. The food has always been good bordering on OK but recently the menu has been overhauled slightly, out have come the wooden plates in an extremely lame attempt to evoke some quality but the food now is just bland and...
