Arrived as the sheep were being gathered from the fells. The weather had been atrocious but the greeting from Paul and Nic was warm and generous even though it was clear that running a large hill farm with two young children was demanding. Our two rooms were delightful and the small living room was perfect for relaxing and drying out... More

A true working farm (gather it had 1000+ sheep) in a gorgeous setting in the middle of nowhere - perfect location for hiking Helvellyn (a good head start for Striding Ridge versus starting in Glenridding). Our room was nicely done (though small) with a separate bathroom and guest sitting room downstairs. Sitting room had good selection of maps, books etc... More

Make sure you get to this hidden gem just below Helvellyn. Paul and Nic (along with Bella and Poppy) will make your stay a memorable and enjoyable one. Guaranteed laughs and a great breakfast too. Trev Powell - Ireland

We stayed at Braesteads Farm in April 2011, during the lambing season. It's a working farm but is very tidy and in such a beautiful spot. Paul and Nic made us all feel so welcome, and were more than happy to chat about the farm. Great breakfasts also! I can't recommend it more highly.

We stayed here on day 3 of our C2C trip - it was an absolute delight. The welcome from Paul and Nic (and Bella, who incidentally is a real cutie!) was both friendly and warm. Nic was delightfully friendly and very easy to chat to . The divine cake which we received and ate in the lovely sitting room was... More

Nic and Paul are brilliant hosts - slightly mischievous and providers of not only a hearty breakfast but a surprise slab of cake after the long walk. They provide a friendly and informative set of tips on the surrounding area and unexpected events like accidentaly finding Paul shearing a sheep (which wasn't very happy about the situation). Don't come here... More

Just spent a weekend celebrating my husband's 50th and couldn't have picked a better place. It's off the beaten track, peaceful, friendly and the views from the Dollywagon room are to die for. Paul and Nic were really friendly and helpful (and little Bella was a delight) The bathroom was excellent, the breakfast too. Definitely highly recommended!

We stayed here for 3 nights over the Easter weekend 2010 having booked it on the website without knowing too much about the place. It turned out to be one of those really lucky bookings. The Grisedale valley the cottage is in will truly take your breath away, it's just gorgeous, and the cottage itself is just what you need... More

We stayed here with another couple of friends while training to climb Kilimanjaro. It is perfectly situated for Helvelyn and variety of other walks in a stunning valley situation. There are 2 double bedrooms with private facilities, a shared TV lounge with a warm and comforting log burner, ample car parking and very clean. Our hosts Nic and Paul and... More
