We spent one night at the Old Water View Inn and I liked it very much. We were three women hiking the Coast to Coast; two of us slept in A. Wainwright's room; the other had a single. I found it fascinating staying in the actual place where AW had written some of his fell-walking chapters. The bathroom being across... More

My partner and myself have just spent a wonderful 3 nights with my beloved 84 year old dad at this lovely guest house with a friendly home from home feel. Although the owner, Ian, was away with his youngest daughter on their next Challenge for Charity, he had left his business in the more than capable and caring hands of... More

We stayed here on the Coast 2 Coast. Upon arrival we were wet, tired and hungry and the sight of lovely Joyce and her team greeting us and being so kind was great. Room - very large, cosily decorated. Not modern or swanky but very functional and cosy - just what you want when walking. Food - I had the... More

Couldn't stay anywhere else on the coast to coast than where AW himself had stayed! Great b&b. Our rooms were lovely, huge bed and boot trays outside the room so no smelly boots in your bedroom! Joyce was our host who was an amazing and inspirational lady - a highlight of our trip (Ian we hope your back has recovered)... More

A nice Inn but found it annoying to use the bathroom across the hall as we had expected our own private facilities. The room was clean though oddly configured. We were very grateful to Catherine who gave us great advice about our onward journey and appreciated her helpfulness and pleasant manner. There was a good selection at breakfast and meals... More

Hi Thank You for your nice review. I am however a little confused as you DID have private facilities. We have no rooms with shared facilities. This particular room is being made en-suite in a re-fit in December. At that point all rooms will be en-suite. Regards Ian More

This is a pleasant hotel with a comfy bed. The staff were all very pleasant and friendly, especially the lovely waitress. The food was beautiful and I highly recommend the pizza. It will be interesting to see after the referb and I hope they manage to keep the character of the place while sprucing it up a bit.

Wainwright's room? No reason to doubt that, but it was comfortable enough. The bathroom across the landing is a bit tired but so was I and it is functional. I do think the position of the light switch in the room is a little odd. Quirky is one thing but that is mad! Free wi-fi is everywhere and Ian seems... More

Hello and Thank You for you review. I am pleased to know that you enjoyed your stay. The room was indeed used by AW and his signature is on the wall. This room will be en-suited in December as part of the winter refurbishment. Once completed, all 6 rooms will be en-suite. Regards Ian More

A very nice and charming place. Odd layout but in a good way. Wifi, TV, and packed lunches available. Small dining room for a very nice dinner. Small bar downstairs. Very nice, friendly, and knowledgeable staff. Close to C2C route. (Note: request room in separate building in back. More private and great views of river and mountains)

Stayed in Wainwright's room - as we were told. Watch the ceiling or bang your head. Stick your head out of the skylights for a fantastic view of the local hills. Only downside for the room is that the bathroom is down the hall. Food and drink were good and we sat outside in the beer garden enjoying the views.... More

Hi there. The room was indeed used by AW over many years. I am glad that you liked the views, ales and food. This room is being en-suited in December 2015 as a part of our on-going upgrade of our facilities. Ian :) More

Thanks to Ian for making our stay so enjoyable. Great conversation about the C2C. Your beer is as good as any we drink along our journey. Beautiful setting along the river. Thank you for the recommendation of taking the boat to save my feet from severe blisters. Comfortable rooms and bed. Good luck with all your future travels.
