This is a fabulous guest house. We were lucky enough to arrive in afternoon sunshine and my first impression was of sheer space: large house, beautifully-kept large gardens with lawns, benches, terrace area, gravel drive . . . in drenching sunshine. The impression of elegance and attention to detail was repeated throughout the entire house. Spacious and comfortable guest lounge... More

The Old Vicarage is possibly the best b&b in the lakes. We are a couple who are both in our early 60s and for us this establishment does everything so well. Not a lot to add to the other reviews, as they say the food is very well cooked and nicely presented and the rooms are spotless. There is a... More

We stayed at the Old Vicarage for my brother's wedding in Cockermouth. Jane and Peter were very accommodating and went out of their way to help us with last minute printing and polishing jobs. The rooms were gorgeous, very well equipped and very clean. The breakfast was amazing. Highly recommended.

We have visited The Old Vicarage a number if times and it never disappoints. Jane and Peter run a great guest house which is welcoming, comfortable and a true delight. The breakfast the perfect start to the day, with an excellent range if options. All I can say is this is the perfect place to relax and forget the stresses... More

We stayed at the Old Vicarge at the end of March and found it to be splendid! A beautiful old Victorian building, immaculately kept and in an idyllic spot. Our room was beautiful and the bathroom was particularly impressive. There were thoughtful little touches like fresh milk and homemade biscuits in our room to. In fact on departure, we were... More

This was a wonderful base for our short Lake District break - we were combining two days of walking with two evenings of Wedding and Ruby Wedding celebrations. The Old Vicarage was comfortable and welcoming, with everything we needed to relax and enjoy ourselves. A lovely location, very well set up for our every need, with a friendly and professional... My husband and I stayed Easter weekend to attend a friends wedding. The house was immaculate and Jane was very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was great, a nice choice and beautifully cooked. Homemade marmalade and even a little chocolate bunny on Easter Sunday. We had a room in the main house (1st floor) - very clean... More

We chose The Old Vicarage for a 2 night stay over the Easter weekend whilst attending a friends wedding nearby and what a fantastic choice we made. The guest house stands alone in beautifully kept gardens, with a gravel driveway and fantastic panoramic views of the surrounding Lakeland countryside. On arrival we were greeted by Jane who I believe owns... More

We had wonderful couple nights stay. Great breakfast with all locally sourced fresh food, My favourite was the homemade marmalade and jam. Even had home made biscuits in room. Jane was fantastic hostess very helpful and friendly without being over the top. Didn't meet Peter as he was busy in the kitchen making the breakfast. At night had cosy drink... More
