Good rooms both peaceful and clean. You will not get fluffy slippers and dressing gowns but then again you don't need them. Good food and beer, whisky fans are in for a treat. The star of the show here is the location and the surroundings and Brook House is in the perfect place after a day of making the most... More

Been staying here for about 20 years so don't really need to say much more! Great place to stay, warm & comfortable, and a superb location. The walking is outstanding in a valley that's a lot quieter than the popular tourist hotspots. Food good with a varied menu to suit all tastes. Drive in from the east over Wrynose &... More

We came off the Wrynose and Hardknot Passes in search of sustenance and found a whiskey nirvana. The light bite was good too but the icing was Mein Host who's quirky Scottish music interest married to mine - and he knows about Penderyn Wysgi! I look forward to a return visit if/when i get back to Cumbria

We stayed at the Brook House for four nights at the end of October as part of a walking holiday in the Lake District. For anyone looking for a small hotel with friendly staff, good sized rooms, a wide range of well prepared food on the menu and a traditional bar that has a well thought out range of beers... More

We popped in here on the off chance as it was nearly 3pm, thirsty and hungry having just driven three amazing passes. Very friendly staff, delicious sandwiches and great chips. On chatting to the barman it transpired that they have over 100 different types of whiskey. Chuffed to see two Penderyns. Worth a stop despite previous reviews. Wifi available a... More

Five of us somewhat senior chaps stayed three nights, dining in each night. First time for us to stay here although we have stayed in Eskdale several times before. The location for fellwalking is ideal of course but we can also recommend the Brook House for staying, eating & drinking. In particular all the staff were without exception friendly & helpful.

Meal arrived quickly after order, too quickly, as food clearly had been cooked and then left to serve when required. Vegetables were soft and overcooked. Chips were greasy and just had a hard over cooked outer shell with no soft centre. Treacle Pudding had hardly any flavour of treacle and the custard had a background flavour of uncooked custard powder.... More

Been staying in Eskdale self catering for a week. Eaten here three or four times because it is excellent. The food is good quality, well-prepared and the specials are imaginative with a good selection of fish and vegetarian dishes. Service is friendly and they have a rotating selection of local ales. Then there are the hundred or more whiskies. Definitely... More
