Stopped off at this pub while doing the Eskdale steam train. Great place to stop as everyone carries onto the end of the line and packs those pubs out. This place was quiet, it was a sunny day, the views were great, the beer was lovely and the food was spot on. All the staff are friendly too.

I stayed here while on a winter hiking weekend in the lake district, it was brilliant. The pub itself must be hundreds of years old and is full of character. The rooms are basic but honestly all you need on a hiking trip. The food was particularly good with local meat sourced from the owners parents' farm. I loved it

I called in this place yesterday..(6th April 2015) What a let down. Plenty of people outside and you could see they were pretty busy. Two ladies serving. The taller of the two was very nice, polite and tried hard to please but the smaller of the two let them all down. She was the one who was really struggling, I... More

This was our 4th visit here and every time it has been a wonderful place to stay, we stayed in one of the pubs bedrooms which were clean and stocked with the usual tea/coffee making facilities, TV, clean towels etc as what would be expected. The staff were more than welcoming and very friendly. The food was lovely with very... More

We just keen on coming back! With a fire that never goes out, the most welcoming host and great food and beer. Is there anywhere we would rather be? I think not. See you in June if we can't get back beforehand. Anyone visiting Eskdale this is a must visit place! Sue, Sam and Bill xxx

I recently returned from our annual winter walking week in Eskdale and, as every year, we spent a large part of our visit in the George! There's a cracking menu of good pub grub, a good selection of beers and whiskeys and the welcome is second to none. There are some fantastic walks in all directions from the George making... More

What a wonderful find stayed one night in the Cabin as all the other accomadation was booked up. The Cabin was fantastic with all the mod cons plus views to die for! Johnty and Sharon ensured our stay was magnificent with great home cooking food for dinner and breakfast and lovely wine and beer. It really is a fantastic traditional... More

Avoid this place at all costs. The Apartment was falling to pieces - the shower curtain was off, the bathroom carpet was damp and wryo, door handles, cooker knobs came off in our hands and the pans were so thick with scum we took most of the food back home as it was too dirty to cook there. We complained... More

At first glance it looks lovely and the location is also superb and this is why we chose it. However the decor of the apartment is very basic, bordering on shabby. The beds are also very cheap and uncomfortable, it was like sleeping on a sack of springs. The 'free wifi' doesn't work and there was no toilet roll supplied.... More

Had a wonderful stay in the self catering accommodation in September. Our dogs were made most welcome. The landlord and staff could not be more welcoming and helpful. The food is good, honest home cooked fare and the choice of beer is wonderful. Will be making another booking very soon.
