Stayed for 3 nights as part of a large group plus dogs. We certainly plan on going again. The accommodation is basic and clean but needs a little TLC. The staff are very friendly, helpful and welcoming, and the place has a great atmosphere, excellent beers and big plates of food - one of the biggest and best fillet steaks... More

We decided to stop here for lunch on our drive around the area. What a find! Friendly staff, excellent ales and huge portions of tasty, well-cooked food. The décor and furnishings are rustic and give this place a charming, warm atmosphere. Definitely well worth a visit.

I award stars relative to the price paid, So these comments should be viewed in the context of accommodation in the cabin (actually a static caravan) at £29 per head and supper for £19 per head including beer and tip. If it was double the price it would have half as many stars. The good things first: the staff were... More

We have just returned from a week stay in Eskdale with our Dobermann's. We visited the pub a few times and we're made very welcome by all staff including The owner Johnty, top bloke! The food here is excellent and there is plenty of real ale on offer to sample in front of a roaring fire or sat outside looking... More

A small group of us called in for refreshment on our motorcycling tour. A lovely warm welcome from staff and soon warmed up with lovely coffee served with smiles and interest. A lovely location and beautiful old English pub.

Stopped off at this pub while doing the Eskdale steam train. Great place to stop as everyone carries onto the end of the line and packs those pubs out. This place was quiet, it was a sunny day, the views were great, the beer was lovely and the food was spot on. All the staff are friendly too.

I stayed here while on a winter hiking weekend in the lake district, it was brilliant. The pub itself must be hundreds of years old and is full of character. The rooms are basic but honestly all you need on a hiking trip. The food was particularly good with local meat sourced from the owners parents' farm. I loved it

I called in this place yesterday..(6th April 2015) What a let down. Plenty of people outside and you could see they were pretty busy. Two ladies serving. The taller of the two was very nice, polite and tried hard to please but the smaller of the two let them all down. She was the one who was really struggling, I... More
