We stayed in the engine inn last night just as a one night break, we were both pleasantly suprised with the friendly staff and great room. The room was very clean (Room 4) and tidy and the bed was very comfy. Staff could not do enough for you and nothing was to much to ask. Its a small drive to... More

Menu very small food was ok. Not sure how one night my daughter got served then next night she got refused even with id and extras to prove it was her. Did look at big grubby in there, and outside was messy chef sitting out with cigaret didn't look good.

This place is the worst accommodation we have ever stayed in. The bedroom and shower and toilet were absolutley filthy. We had to go and ask for toilet paper,a change of clean towels,we were then given as a hand towel a shower mat. This place never gets cleaned or sanitised, the bed was a nightmare so uncomfortable, the only light was ceiling... More

We stayed 2nights - never again. Locals call this place the Hammer House of Horror. Very dusty room, cobwebs hanging from ceiling, dirty grouting round shower, mastic round bath peeling off, bin not emptied, no toilet paper left for 2nd day, walls could do with lick of paint. The bed was broken and propped up by 2 crates (underneath and... More

My wife & I and our dog 'Jasper' stayed in a little cottage in the village and decided to eat here as it was only a stones throw from the cottage. We're both we glad we did as as soon as we entered we were made to feel very welcome by the lovely barmaid. We ordered something for evening meal... More

Rustic and a bit dusty but overall excellent value for money. Friendly staff. Quite clean apart from the obvious dust and the shower was needing attention to detail.. But nothing that a cheap bottle of bleach did not take care of. Breakfast was good but painfully slow in coming. Bear in mind that this is a holiday retreat and not... More

Visited several times for meal and drink. Meals average, pricey for what you get. Real ale, good selection of well kept ales, well justified to be in CAMRA good pub guide. Big bonus is that dog site are most welcome, free biscuits included.

My husband and I visited the Engine Inn most days during our recent stay in Cark, week commencing 21st March. On our first and all subsequent visits we were made to feel extremely welcome by all of the staff, especially the young dark-haired female who appeared to be behind the bar on most days . This is a typical real... More
