My husband and I wanted a few days away before the madness of Christmas is upon us. We didn't originally plan to stay at the Engine Inn, but so glad we did now! We stayed for 3 nights, having never been to that part of the country before, so glad I did now. Rolling hills, tiny quaint village, no civilisation... More

My daughter in law made a late booking for us at the Engine and we had had a lovely time during this half term.. The pub is quaint and very old. A good old fashioned bar with a good selection of beer, wines and spirits. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable and our evening meal menu had a good... More

Had three nights staying here in October and could not fault it. Room was lovely and clean, very warm and cosy. Lots of tea and coffee and toiletries. Breakfast was good and could not fault the food in the evening. Would recommend it to others and would come back again. Loved the drawings on the display wall that the children... More

What a find! Accommodation was simple but did the job. However, the food, real ale, great service and roaring log fire absolutely hit the spot. Had to be away early and was provided with a fab bacon buttie to go. Awesome

My family and I stayed a few weeks ago, and all I have to say is ....fantastic! My husband was running the ultra marathon and I was there with two little boys (7&5) The owners could not do enough for us , they made us feel like we were in a five star hotel. Also the location was fab, right... More

The hosts were very friendly and helpful ,breakfast good ,dinner ok very small portions especially of rice and we felt dinner over priced .housekeeping could be better as the girl just really made the bed ,forgot towels left tea tray dirty . The young lady that served breakfast didn't ask if we preferred our eggs fried poached or scrambled but... More

Thank you for your review. I can only apologise for the errors by the house keeper and waitress. She is new at the job and is still making a few errors. Hopefully it won't stop you visiting again if in the area. Kind regards Chris. More

uh oh. nice enough place, good beers but although not quite in the Lake District - Lake District prices for the beer! There were several rooms (snugs) in the pub - which was nice. The open fires could have done with being lit.

uh oh. Somebody who knows nothing about running a pub! We charge what we charge because of the extortionate price we get charged for the beer and rent by the Pub Company who own the pub. Also because of the extortionate business rates we get charged because we are in "The Lake District". Speak to us and we will tell... More

Really loved our visit to the Engine. We were a party of 15, including 4 children and one baby. We turned up without a reservation, on the off chance that they could accommodate us, which they did admirably. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and couldn't do enough to help, and the food was all excellent, obviously cooked fresh... More

We stayed here for 3 nights whilst visiting friends. The pub has a good atmosphere & serves very good beer. The food was fairly basic pub meals but well cooked & lots of it, ditto the breakfast. Our room was quite small but very clean with a nice touch of biscuits on the tea/coffee tray. We had a problem with... More
