Four of us visited for an evening meal. We were made to feel very welcome as soon as we arrived. We had a delicious meal, all freshly cooked with local produce. The men enjoyed some real cask ales. We would recommend the Black Cock and will return to enjoy some more home cooked food. The service was excellent.

Stayed here with friends for two nights (Friday, Saturday). All the staff were very friendly, excellent pub food (plus very good selection of real ales!) and very comfortable room. The owners work hard and we had a very enjoyable stay.

We stayed here for two nights from 5 - 7th June 2015. We chose this location as we were spending the day climbing Scafell Pike and wanted some accommodation that wasn't charging crazy prices. Upon arrival we were handed out room keys and shown upstairs (above the bar) to our rooms. The accommodation was fairly basic, with some wall lamps... More

The Black Cock feels like your classic Olde English Pub. Genuine old low beams - duck or grouse! Different areas from the comfortable snug to small dining areas with open fire. The beer was good and an interesting selection of real cask ales. We both had the large fish and chips, very well reviewed in the past. Yes it was... More

We were refused food service after we had found an available table in the bar area. We had four adults and a 4yr old sat at a table designed for four people. Although snug we were quite happy with the space we had. The barman said that they would not be able to serve five plates at the table due... More

4 lads travelled from Eire to cycle the lake district for the May bank holiday weekend and stayed the Friday night in the Black Cock Inn. We found the staff very friendly and couldn't have accommodated us any more than they did. We definitely wouldn't have received the same service any place else providing late check out and showers after... More

Some colleagues and I ate here on a business trip and couldn't praise it enough... the fish and chips was fantastic, the mixed meat curry from the specials board was out of this world and if you go for the cumberland sausages, be sure to upgrade add the yorkies.... service was friendly - food took a little longer because it's... My partner and I visited the BC on 6th April and found the service to be so appallingly awful that we got up and left before we even ordered. It was a bank holiday and we knew the pub may have finished serving food for the afternoon however when we asked the waitress she confirmed they would still serve food.... More
