Great ex YHA hostel with loads of room & friendly atmosphere. They have a table tennis room, both a restaurant & a self catering kitchen. A lounge with a pool table. Very friendly & helpful staff. Big rooms. Special prices for kids - but only if you telephone to book.

The hostel is set in a very grand looking building. Good rooms. Standard beds. Good lights above each bed and our room had a couple of wash basins which was very handy. The showers were hot and decent pressure. They had ping pong tables and wifi in the living room. Very clean - not at all gritty or grimy.

Travelled with 2 other friends, on a public transport. We had a very comfortable 2 nights stay.. in a 10 bed bunk room. Used the self service kitchen which has all the basics you need.. you can order food too which was lovely and freshly made.. staff were very friendly and helpful. My husband, daughter age 3 and myself stayed here for a couple of nights, we had not stayed in a Hostel before and was very impressed, the location was beautiful, the staff were warm and welcoming, kitchen facilities were great and the grounds were lovely for my daughter to run around. We will definitely be back. Thank you!

We hired the whole hostel for our wedding weekend, had a meal cooked in the hostel, a ceilidh in a marquee on the terrace, and a fantastic time. The building is stunning, clean and well cared for, the staff incredibly friendly, and the views beautiful to wake up. A perfect hostel, used to, and for, outdoorsy people. Thank you.

Very nice, clean hostel. Very friendly and courteous staff. I will definitely be staying here again. The self catering kitchen is very big and well equipped. The breakfast and packed lunches are great (I did not try dinner). The grounds surrounding are absolutely beautiful and there are several walks you can take just from the hostel. It's a very short... We stayed here Easter half term and had a great time. The staff couldn't do enough to make us welcome and our stay comfortable. We had a family room with stunning views across Derwentwater. The kitchen was well stocked, the lounge was comfortable and the showers and toilets were spotless. The grounds are home to an abundance of wildlife and... More

Stumbled across this lovely youth hostel whilst walking over Walla Crag, had intended to walk over to high seat but the weather was horrendous, so wet through and dripping we decided on the low level route back to Keswick. Although, we didn't stop at the Hostel, we couldnt resist a cup of tea in the Hostel, the man in charge... More

What a wonderful stay we had this autumn, we full family went there, the staff was so so nice I would love to go again and again, visitors all got mixed, we had a lot of social chat in evening and self catering was also nicely equipped. We were bit shy of using shared facilities but these were plenty and... More

It is definitely a family friendly hostel, so you cannot compare to the Waldorf Astoria. It's a clean stately old manor and the profits help fund an environmental education foundation. Very helpful staff who are happy to orient you to a meaningful outdoor experience. Ideal for birders. Did I mention that we had a cascading waterfall outside our window which... More
