Had a very wet weekend in north Cumbria. In fact just a week prior to the very bad flooding around there. However, the hotel was a haven of tranquillity amongst a torrent of raging weather. The building is listed and the owners have faithfully adhered to the onerous, but essential, advice given by the local planning authorities. The result is... More

Just wanted to take a moment to say thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are delighted that you had such an enjoyable weekend despite the weather! Fortunately we managed to stay dry the following weekend too but our thoughts are very much with those parts of Cumbria ( and North Yorkshire, Leeds, Manchester and Lancashire) who weren't... More

Gill and David are wonderful hosts, we felt very welcome and at home in this 13th century rectory which is tastefully decorated. Unfortunately, we could not try Gill's cooking skills but loved the cheese tray and the red wine she offered instead. The breakfast is heavenly - fruit salat consisting of 10 different fresh fruits, fantastic porridge with whiskey and... More

This is not just somewhere to stay it is an experience. This was a return visit & we were not to be disappointed. In this quiet & beautiful area of the Lake District you are made to feel part of this glorious home. A wonderful place to return to after experiencing the wild Fells at the back of Skiddaw. The charming... More

We stayed at the old rectory from 16 to 19 April 2015. We have not been better looked after anywhere else and we have stayed in numerous places over the years. The hospitality was first class in all respects. The food superb, the room spacious and comfortable. There is a very marked attention to detail obvious in all aspects of... More

Dear Jackie and Jim We just wanted to say a huge thank you for writing such a glowing review - the first you've ever written we believe! We never ask guests to write a review ( despite being repeatedly told that we should do!) as we feel it's a bit like having to do homework! However we are always delighted... More

We've stayed three times in Boltongate Old Rectory; we know no better B&B anywhere (and almost none that are even comparable). Many small touches in the rooms, and small courtesies during the stay, show how much Gill and David have thought about every smallest detail to make their B&B superb. The comfortable, spacious bedrooms, the two guest sitting rooms (modern... More

This was our fifth visit to Boltongate Old Rectory. We love returning because Gill and David have created such a perfect place to stay. I stayed here with my wife for two nights and we were not disappointed. What a wonderful place to stay and enjoy a night with old friends. The hospitality and food are second to none and every little whim is catered for, I am vegetarian and really picky, but nothing was too much trouble. We really look forward to our next visit, hopefully this year. Top tip, ring Boltongate direct
