We stayed here on an overnight stop back to the South of England from the Highlands of Scotland. The foyer/entrance was not exactly welcoming and the toilet facilities in this area, the second thing you encounter upon entering, left us very concerned about our choice of booking. Not helped by the journey to our rooms; the communal areas are dowdy... More

We recently had one night at the Alston House and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff are very pleasant and friendly. Bethany served us in the restaurant in the evening and top marks to her. The dining room and food were excellent, particularly my Lamb Shouler dinner. The bar also serves some very morish real ales! Our bedroom was modernised,... More

A warm welcome from Carole, a comfortable room, a very good en-suite and excellent food. This guest house has all the ingredients you need for a short or long stay in the North Pennines. We were on Travelzoo so it represented superb value for us.

What a lovely birthday present from our friends, Richard and Linda - an overnight stay with dinner and breakfast. The best way to describe this hotel is that it is informal and homely, it has a feel of an inn about it but does not fall short on cleanliness and service. Fires blazing in the cafe area and the bar... More

A perfect place for a night away, maybe best to avoid Tuesday though, the rest of Alston appeared to be closed.

Alston House looks quite austere from the outside but the welcome inside is anything but. Our room was lovely with a great view and what looked and felt like a brand new en suite bathroom. All facilities were good with free wi-fi and good tv reception in the room. Prepared with thought and a good deal of skill the food... More

Really good little hidden gem in Cumbria. We found a deal on Travelzoo and weren't disappointed. The owners were very welcoming and friendly, we had a great three course meal and few drinks in the bar. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an escape for the night.
