I have stayed at Lowbyer many times when working in Alston. Laura and Richard have made me so welcome - even when I've arrived very late due to thick snow in the middle of winter - that it's like a second home. Breakfasts are great, the rooms are very comfortable and the hospitality consistent and genuine. As a very regular... more

I have stayed here approx 6 times now and cant wait for my next visit. Richard and Laura are great hosts. Fab breakfasts that set you up for the day and a lovely snug bar to wind down in at night. Alston is a lovely place with an excellent selection of eateries and watering holes! A great base for visiting... more

On a cold afternoon on our way up to Scotland we stopped at this conveniently situated hotel. Alston is a small characterful town with a main cobbled street. The hotel is on the outskirts in pictureque grounds. We were welcomed by the smell of a log fire and our very friendly hosts. The room was spacious but quaint and attention... more

The place is beautiful and was my favorite of all places I stayed. I was soloing the Coast to Coast bicycle route. Laura and Richard were the best! They are very "green" and use only local goods. Outstanding breakfast! The place was roomy and comfortable. The common room made me fell like a British Lord. Alston is a picturesque friendly... more

Booked in for two nights and found the hotel to be very welcoming. Rooms were average size with everything you could need, but obviously compromised in places by it being a very old building. Breakfast was excellent using fresh local produce and very nicely served, but I missed having no fresh fruit which I sort of expect to be standard... more

A very nice place to stay. The hotel had a small but adequate car park outside the main entrance door. The reception was excellent and the booking in perfect. We were shown up to our top floor double room. The room itself had the usual furniture, double bed, wardrobe, dressing table etc. We did find the double bed a bit... more

The owners of Lowbyer Manor, Laura and Richard, are welcoming hosts and run a lovely establishment. Our room (The Stuart) was immaculately clean and well equipped; an extremely comfortable king size bed, with superb quality bedding; lovely furniture & furnishings, tv with dvd player, cd/radio along with a box of various cds, ample storage space, well stocked hospitality tray, a... more

Nice building in a cute old town with very nice owners who are helpful and professional. The room we had was not at all to my taste, though. Small with a tiny en-suite shower room and walls covered in wood chip paper and lots of pictures of owls, mice etc and a host of bric a brac reminded me of... more

My husband & I decided to take a long and winding route to Newcaslte Airport and stayed overnight at Lowbyre and we were not disappointed. Laura and Richard are perfect hosts and so welcoming into their lovely and special B&B. Shortly after we arrived they provided a tea tray in the spacious lounge, complete with roaring log fire and enough... more

If you have read some of the previous reviews praising this hotel then believe them. This is an excellent place to stay with good clean comfortable rooms, a lovely small bar with a good selection of bottled real ales and a hearty breakfast. The staff are super friendly too Highly recommended more
