We stayed in this lovely B&B in Alston. The proprietors Laura & Richard made us very welcome and the small bar within was just the ticket when we arrived after a full day of travelling. My bed was comfy and the whole place was clean and full of character. We asked if we could have a slightly earlier breaky on... More

Stayed one night while doing the coast to coast bike ride and passing through Alston. We arrived late feeling very wet and cold and Laura was extremely friendly and helpful she even leant me a fleece to walk to the pub in as the temperature outside had dropped significantly. Breakfast was fantastic exactly what we needed when embarking on the... More

My third visit to Alston and the best experience yet, from the warm welcome and offer of tea or coffee on arrival to the hearty breakfast prior to departure. Though the single room was compact it was well fitted out, an attractive home made quilt adding to its charm. A generous hospitality tray was complete with biscuits, mints and bottled... More

We were in Alston for the Railway gala and this hotel came recommended by the railway team. How right they were with their recommendation, the hotel is easy to find, Lorna welcomed us and brought us tea in the guest lounge, which we really appreciated. She also shared her knowledge of local places to eat and typical menu's with us... More

Several unique points - an old, quaint "manor house" with lots of character and history; quiet, big guest sitting room (no TV!); and a very cosy, well-stocked bar in the basement, very unusual outside of formal hotels. Warm welcome by helpful, friendly - and environment conscious - hosts. V. good cooked breakfasts. (No evening meals) As a base, local steam... More

We stayed at Lowbyer Manor in September this year and it has become our favourite guest house. We first visted in September 2013 for the first night of our honeymoon and this visit was the perfect way to start our anniversary. Proprietor Laura has a true gift for making her guests feel at home and the house is comfortable and... More

Lowbyer Manor was a great place to stay while cycling the C2C in late October. After a wet and very windy day, the welcome by Laura, with clear understanding of the need to see the bike safely stored away, a chance to wash and change followed by a pot of tea in the lounge, was a really lovely introduction. Lowbyer... More

A lovely hotel. We were welcomed with a pot of tea and shortbread in the beautiful lounge with a roaring fire. The room was lovely and had tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, mints and a bottle of spring water. There was a variety of toiletries in the bathroom. Breakfast was delicious and there was a wide choice on the breakfast... More
