This was our second visit to Lowbyer and we were once again not disappointed. We were made very welcome by Richard and Laura on our arrival and given tea and biscuits in the Guest Room. The Twin bedded room was a good size and very clean and tidy. One of the the best breakfasts ever, with a wide ranging choice... More

Very enjoyable stay at Lowbyer. A very warm welcome. We had chosen the Derwentwater room, overlooking the c150 year old 100 foot high sequoia tree. Whilst we did not see red squirrels we did see a woodpecker pecking away before in the morning, before breakfast. The room was 'cozy' rather than large but like the rest of the hotel had... More

Very disappointed, rooms are small and v dated decor. Mould behind window shutter. Shower awful no pressure at all. Lounge and dining room are like a care home. Bed small with springs coming through. Way over priced. Breakfast was basic Friendly owners but come on guys update or reduce your prices

Thank you for your review, sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay. We are disappointed with some of your comments as they do not reflect the rest of the feedback that we have had for the property. The bed is a standard sized double with a mattress topper, we will check the mattress thoroughly and change it... More

We stayed for 3 nights during a period of mixed weather. Our room was warm and comfortable and Laura & Richard friendly and helpful. Laura gave us lots of local information and contacts. The facilities were good - we especially liked the lounge and bar. Breakfast was amazing and really set us up for the day. Loved the quilts and... More

We stayed in this lovely B&B in Alston. The proprietors Laura & Richard made us very welcome and the small bar within was just the ticket when we arrived after a full day of travelling. My bed was comfy and the whole place was clean and full of character. We asked if we could have a slightly earlier breaky on... More

Stayed one night while doing the coast to coast bike ride and passing through Alston. We arrived late feeling very wet and cold and Laura was extremely friendly and helpful she even leant me a fleece to walk to the pub in as the temperature outside had dropped significantly. Breakfast was fantastic exactly what we needed when embarking on the... More

My third visit to Alston and the best experience yet, from the warm welcome and offer of tea or coffee on arrival to the hearty breakfast prior to departure. Though the single room was compact it was well fitted out, an attractive home made quilt adding to its charm. A generous hospitality tray was complete with biscuits, mints and bottled... More

We were in Alston for the Railway gala and this hotel came recommended by the railway team. How right they were with their recommendation, the hotel is easy to find, Lorna welcomed us and brought us tea in the guest lounge, which we really appreciated. She also shared her knowledge of local places to eat and typical menu's with us... More

Several unique points - an old, quaint "manor house" with lots of character and history; quiet, big guest sitting room (no TV!); and a very cosy, well-stocked bar in the basement, very unusual outside of formal hotels. Warm welcome by helpful, friendly - and environment conscious - hosts. V. good cooked breakfasts. (No evening meals) As a base, local steam... More

We stayed at Lowbyer Manor in September this year and it has become our favourite guest house. We first visted in September 2013 for the first night of our honeymoon and this visit was the perfect way to start our anniversary. Proprietor Laura has a true gift for making her guests feel at home and the house is comfortable and... More
