Several unique points - an old, quaint "manor house" with lots of character and history; quiet, big guest sitting room (no TV!); and a very cosy, well-stocked bar in the basement, very unusual outside of formal hotels. Warm welcome by helpful, friendly - and environment conscious - hosts. V. good cooked breakfasts. (No evening meals) As a base, local steam... More

We stayed at Lowbyer Manor in September this year and it has become our favourite guest house. We first visted in September 2013 for the first night of our honeymoon and this visit was the perfect way to start our anniversary. Proprietor Laura has a true gift for making her guests feel at home and the house is comfortable and... More

Lowbyer Manor was a great place to stay while cycling the C2C in late October. After a wet and very windy day, the welcome by Laura, with clear understanding of the need to see the bike safely stored away, a chance to wash and change followed by a pot of tea in the lounge, was a really lovely introduction. Lowbyer... More

A lovely hotel. We were welcomed with a pot of tea and shortbread in the beautiful lounge with a roaring fire. The room was lovely and had tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, mints and a bottle of spring water. There was a variety of toiletries in the bathroom. Breakfast was delicious and there was a wide choice on the breakfast... More

We stayed here whilst completing the Coast to Coast and it couldn't have been friendlier. From the moment we arrived we were well looked after and offered hot beverages (which was great as we were very cold after a long windy & wet decent from Whinlatter. It was close the the town centre so easy to wonder around and find... More

I stayed here with my two young daughters for a few days on our quest to see as much of Hadrian's Wall as possible (which is only 30 minutes away and absolutely breath-taking!) we were well looked after from the moment we arrived - like everyone else has said Laura really is the friendliest and perfect host. Not to forget... More

Loads of character in a lovely little village. The owners were very welcoming, there's a proper lock-up garage for the bikes and the breakfast was great too. Some of the rooms allow dogs, so it's a possible spot for the family in the future. I would defo stay again.,
