Our bikes were securley placed in a store room under the hotel and then we were taking to our room which was lovely and spacious with good facilities. Yes it might be near to a bit of a refurbish which could be said about other parts of the hotel. My wife thought her breakfast was excellent and the bar had... More

We visited the Cumberland Hotel as a family many years ago so we were interested to see how different it would be. The landlady gives a no-nonsense welcome and I can honestly say that I've never had a host take so much care. She quietly notices everything and helps accordingly. Don't expect frills. We don't do frilly in Cumbria and... More

We used the Cumberland as a stop on the C2C cycle route. The staff are friendly, and there is a good range of beers in the bar. The rooms are ok too. The only downside is that the whole place clearly needs a few pounds spending on it in terms of refurbishment. We ate dinner over the road. Would definitely... More

Six friends dined here on the first Saturday in June. We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening, enhanced by delightful and helpful staff. The food was ok, with good ales on tap. Southern, sophisticated chic it was not - but we didn't go expecting that.

I spent a week on the Pennine Way walking from Horton to Alston, having my evening meal in a variety of village pubs and this was undoubtedly the best. Admittedly it was a Friday night but there was a great atmosphere. Very friendly and efficient staff, sample glasses on hand to try the local brews before buying and excellent pub... More

We were part of a C2C group and found this met our needs for really good food, comfy clean rooms and secure bike storage. It isn't the fanciest, plushest hotel but that wasn't what we there for. The staff treated us really well and there was excellent provision of good grub for dinner and breakfast, and and a good night's... More

I booked the Cumberland hotel, and three course evening meal (£13!) via their website without any hassle, about 2 weeks before my stay. I and 5 motorcycling friends then stayed at the hotel on the weekend of 29th March. We stayed in two rooms, 1 and 3, each of which has three beds. The rooms are spacious and had enough... More

Stayed at the Cumberland Hotel for one night after walking from Haltwhistle along the South Tynedale trail. All the staff were friendly, the accommodation was comfortable and quiet, the beer in the bar was good and the full English breakfast hit the spot. Would recommend.

Stayed here 1 night on business, booked by my company. Food was excellent, lots of local fayre and I was surprised how reasonably priced it was. The hospitality and friendliness of the owner, his wife and indeed all the staff was outstanding. Clean, warm and very comfortable bedroom with a breathtaking view. Don't expect bright lights and too much excitement... More

Our first visit to the Cumberland, we stayed between Xmas & New Year, along with our dog and we loved it. Staff were excellent, extremely friendly and helpful. A great bar menu & as someone else has said, a good selection of veggie food too (the veggie lasagne was gorgeous). We had a lovely big room at the front of... More
