Don't be put off by first impressions. A full skip out the front, and car park down a hill. The welcome you receive inside the pub is wonderful. Staff and locals are so friendly, and the pub has a really happy feel about it. Perfect for CAMRA lovers, we stayed for 4 nights & sampled a different local beer each... More

Ten of us were booked in last Saturday night for B&B while doing the coast to coast. Our organiser had forgot to book a table so we could be fed. Fear not after talking to the bar maid she managed to squeeze us all in for 8.00 that night which was great. They were quite busy so we had a... More

This doesn't win any awards for tip top presentation, 'room wise' but there is a certain quirkiness about the place which is in keeping with the quirkiness of the town. The room was clean and the view over the moor delightful. The staff were friendly and welcoming. My room was over a fairly noisy kitchen blower which eventually stopped when... More

Very welcoming and well kept real ales. The evening menu is very good with a whole page devoted to different types of curry. This is our 3rd visit here whilst doing the Pennine Way and every visit has been spot on. If you want good food and beer whilst in Alston then look no further.

Have enjoyed a fair few meals in here and ice cold drinks! Recommend after nice walks in the countryside! Located in the heart of Alston at the bottom of the steep hill. Beautiful views and very friendly atmosphere.

Welcomed and served by friendly staff. Excellent low cost laundry service was great for long distance walkers with distinctly smelly socks and clothing! Lovely large room with great view towards the river. Good food and real ales - scrambled eggs at breakfast seem to challenge many establishments but here they were delicious. Provided the perfect rest day as we walked... More
