Like a lot of people we came here on a deal - an overnighter and a seven-course taster menu dinner. It was ridiculously cheap for the experience we had. Let me start with the positives (which easily outweigh the negatives) 1. The staff are absolutely superb. Relaxed, friendly and attentive without being intrusive or overbearing. 2. The food is gorgeous.... More

A two night stay in this charming hotel gave a great base in which to explore Alston and the surrounding countryside. The taster menu we enjoyed on our first nights stay was very tasty and good value whilst the second evening we opted for a lovely nearby restaurant called The Overwater Lodge at Nenthead, delicious food was served in cosy... We stayed here in December '14 on a one night break with 7 course taster menu and wine included. We thought what we paid for the experience was fantastic value for money. Yes, we could pick faults round the edges but you could do this in even the best of hotels where you would easily pay twice as much and... More

Food very good. Staff helpful and could be over familiar especially in the bar. Hotel rundown and needing painting. Flaking paintwork round windows outside. Bedrooms tired and needing a good clean. It is the first place I have been where there has been a typed notice in the bathroom 'Do not rub your fake tan off on the towels'. Exposed... More

The food and atmosphere at the hotel was good. The accommodation is a little dated in the bedrooms and they are dog friendly. Unfortunately I wasn't aware that dogs are allowed in the bedrooms and I am allergic to their fur. Although the room had been cleaned there was still traces of dog hair in the room and I spent... Stayed for a couple of nights in summer, as my partner and i wanted somewhere quiet and relaxing whilst visiting relatives in the area. Found it to be the perfect escape, with unobtrusive yet friendly staff,a comfy room and very tasty breakfasts. All to be found in beautiful unspoilt countryside. Alston Moor reminded me of stepping back to a different... More

My wife and I stayed here for two nights bed and breakfast, but we had a meal the second night, as my wife has I B S the staff were very helpful and prepared us a different meal to the menu. Although the Hotel is a little outdated the accommodation, food and the friendly staff more than make up for... More

Stayed here for two nightsand can honestly say it's been one of best weekends ever. The food was absolutely oiutstanding. We did the seven course taster menu with wines selections as part of our travelzoo offer. Every course was amazing and the wines delicious (although I'm not a wine connosiour by any means you could tell they certainly know a... More

We stayed at the hotel and had booked for their 7 course taster menu, with the wine flight. The food was out of this world and I can understand why they have won so many awards for their food and wine choices. The breakfast was equally as good with such a vast choice. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the... More

Stayed here with friends with a travelzoo offer. The hotel is very remote, 2 miles out of Alston and is approached down a long drive. It doesn't look too impressive from the outside but the staff are really friendly and the rooms are great with nice bathrooms and very comfy beds. There is a bit of decorative upgrading that could...
