As many reviewers have candidly versed, this is an old lady, with signs if a few wrinkles and cracks. If you're expecting city centre chic, you may find this character detracting from your experience. Dont get me wrong, soneone has spent a lot of money on this building already, but bourgeois it isnt. The food is amazingly good, dont expect... More

This place has so much to offer. The food is beyond beyond having had the amazing dinner with accompanying wines and two 5 star breakfasts served by pleasant staff. I find some of the well meaning but misdirected nitpicking on the general decor misplaced. If this lovely lady of a hotel had the kind of major plastic surgery some guests... More

We booked a Gourmet weekend break for 3 couples and were treated to the best meal we had ever tasted with brilliant accomodation. and a lovely breakfast. The staff were all exceptional , Gayle in particular made the weekend particularly enjoyable. We all said that we would most definately return in a heatrbeat. It was all fabulous.

I have known of this hotel for many years and when a Travelzoo Offer came up we jumped at it! Yes the outside of the hotel needs a great deal of attention, but the staff, food and ambience were very good. Value for money was excellent - the seven course taster menu with wine and breakfast for two at £129... More

This hotel ticks all our boxes. It is a lovely hotel in a beautiful, quiet setting. Yes, the driveway could do with a makeover as there were some quite big potholes to negotiate and the bins were in the car park but those are minor points. The service was excellent, these people just couldn't do enough for us and their... More

Went on a Travel Zoo deal with apprehension when looking at other reviews and all I can say is those negative reviewers need to get a life. Loved it. Yes it is a bit tired but it excels in every other way. The food was superb as was the room. Location fab and the village was full of character. But... More

Alston is not the sort of place to attract the crowds which is probably a light relief but it must make managing a hotel difficult albeit with minimal competition. Lovelady is tucked away and easily missed and first sight is not encouraging with what might be described as a slightly run-down in appearance and in need of some TLC. Internally... More

This is a fantastic value overnight treat with a Travel Zoo voucher. Not sure why some of the reviewers were complaining - we thought it was great. Lovely setting (despite the torrential rain when we arrived). Yes, you do meet the recycling bins down the drive - so??? don't we all like to do our bit. OK, maybe they could... More

Just spent a night at the hotel with a travel zoo offer .It was exceptional value as we had a gourmet tasting menu 8 courses including coffee with matching wines .The food was served by pleasant young waitresses who described each course as it was served. We had great food in small portions but this was perfect given the amount of... It seems like everyone staying here when we did, was on some kind of "deal" or "offer", and I can see why. The Lovelady Shield is in dire need of more than a little TLC. (In fact one couple told us they nearly turned around and left when they got down the potholed driveway). The first thing that greats you... More
