There is no doubt that in rainy weather the approach is gloomy and the outside needs painting. But we found that the welcome, food and service more than made up for that. The 7 course tasting menu was superb in taste and presentation and I would say to the reviewer below...duh...the point of a tasting menu is smaller portions! The... More

Looking for somewhere to stay following a trip to Northumberland we settled on this delightful Country House Hotel in neighbouring Cumbria. Alston village itself was a surprise with it's cobbled roads and narrow streets and we look forward to a return visit when we can explore it more fully. Lovelady is 400 metres from the nearest road with splendid views... More

In the east of Cumbria and the North Pennines, this Country House Hotel could have been a haven of tranquility; being so remotely situated with amazing views of the fells and approached by us over the breathtaking Alston Moor. We visited in October, after the first significant rain of the season; and as the hotel dates from 1832 and nestles... More

We visited this hotel 8 years ago and were tempted back as we were visiting the area anyway and saw a Groupon deal offering B & B plus a 7 course taster menu . On arrival we were met by a very cheery lady and we found the staff all very friendly with one exception which I will come to... More

Had a lovely weekend trip as a family with our seven year old. Room was great at the front of the house (sofa bed for our son). Quiet part of the world, nice walks available close by and sedate activities and board games available. Seven course tasting menu was fabulous, and on the second night they let our seven year... Stayed 2 nights and although we had a pleasant time we were slightly disappointed with the overall experience. The hotel is located in a beautiful place but needs updating, mainly to the outside but the two rooms we were on were nice but needed some tlc. Kettle had to be placed on floor to be used as no waist level... More

We stayed at the hotel for one night As many have said the hotel decor IS tired. We can accept this is a old country house but being greeted by peeling paint did dampen our spirits somewhat on arrival. The lady who greeted us, however, was friendly, charming and very professional - as were all of the staff we met.... More

the food is top notch and the hotel is a little dated, having said that £179 for 2 nights with a 7 coarse meal with some good wine is pretty good value, staff were friendly and polite, the meal is from 7.30 - 10.00 but you don't feel like you are waiting for your food at all and it was... More

We stayed at the Lovelady on the 16th of Sept. The hotel, wether you like it or not, looks tired on approach. I'll be honest, our room, no.10 was poor. I won't go into specifics as that would take too long but it was just poor overall. Having got on with our stay, we ventured around the grounds, which again... More
