We stayed here with friends after walking some spectacular sections of the Pennine Way. Alston is a quaint town architecturally but it offers all you need. This hostel is well situated, quiet, comfortable, with good facilities and very friendly, helpful new owners. Their breakfast was just what was needed for another day of travel - hot and tasty.

Group of 5 of us stayed in early June. Perfect venue for anyone completing the Coast-to-Coast cycle challenge. 75 Miles from Whitehaven and on the 'near' side of the town as you approach. Lovely setting just off the road and trees for cover. Very warm welcome and good facilities including secure bike storage and racks with a laundry room too.... More

5 of us stayed here one Friday night half way through our C2C bike ride. The chap at the hostel couldn't do enough for us. We arrived, locked our bikes in the indoor safe storage, we were given the keys to our rooms and then the food choices for breakfast, there is a lot of choice! We asked for a... More

We stayed one night and paid £17 each. We had booked up and so we were expected. We arrived just after 6pm and seemed to catch the warden on the hop. We were left standing around for a while when she went to check if the room was ready. We got checked in and told where everything was. There was... More

A group of six families stayed here for a weekend and had a fantastic time. They let me stay in my room... More

Had the pleasure of staying at this hostel on Saturday the 13th July 13 during the final assault on the last stages of the Pennine Way. Great Hostel, Great manager / owner who cooked a mean breakfast. The owner having forgotten to pack our muffins in our packed lunches, loaded them into her car and reunited us with them in... More

Stayed here overnight on the 20th May 2013 whilst doing the Pennine Way, location for Pennine Way walkers is perfect, the way passes a few yards away from the front door! Facilities are very good and the bedroom room was comfortable. Breakfast was up to scratch but there was a mix up over times, I was told breakfast starts at... More

This was an excellent hostel. It was clean and warm and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The self catering kitchen was well stocked and the meals served by the staff were delicious and very reasonably priced. I was impressed that they were happy to cook for one person and to ask me when I would like to eat.... More

As you walk the Way into Alston, step up a few steps and you are at the YHA. Clean, tidy with self catering kitchen and a place to make hot drinks. Great breakfast and facilities. Very good value for money.
