I was back packing and the weather turned iffy so I booked in for a second night and the staff offerd me a lift to Hexham (yes they were going anyway but they still offered!) Great stay, I... More

The staff at AYH were very hospitable and could not do enough for us,they even picked up some of our weary bikers doing the Whitehaven to Alston C2C route with star radio when it got too much. They truly went above and beyond. Very friendly staff, lovely food and comfy beds, would recommend it to anyone, but especially those weary... More

Thank you for your very kind and positive comments. You and your group of cyclists certainly had a very challenging time considering the weather conditions on the day. It is good to know we helped to make it a little better for you all and that everyone arrived at the end of the Coast 2 Coast ride safely. We look... More

Stayed for 2 nights in a family room. Room good for value, nice dining area, self catering kitchen was well equipped & clean, staff friendly & helpful pointing out local places to visit, the area was covered in snow when we visited, just beautiful. I Plan to stay again for longer. Value for money

We stayed here with friends after walking some spectacular sections of the Pennine Way. Alston is a quaint town architecturally but it offers all you need. This hostel is well situated, quiet, comfortable, with good facilities and very friendly, helpful new owners. Their breakfast was just what was needed for another day of travel - hot and tasty.

Group of 5 of us stayed in early June. Perfect venue for anyone completing the Coast-to-Coast cycle challenge. 75 Miles from Whitehaven and on the 'near' side of the town as you approach. Lovely setting just off the road and trees for cover. Very warm welcome and good facilities including secure bike storage and racks with a laundry room too.... More

5 of us stayed here one Friday night half way through our C2C bike ride. The chap at the hostel couldn't do enough for us. We arrived, locked our bikes in the indoor safe storage, we were given the keys to our rooms and then the food choices for breakfast, there is a lot of choice! We asked for a... More

We stayed one night and paid £17 each. We had booked up and so we were expected. We arrived just after 6pm and seemed to catch the warden on the hop. We were left standing around for a while when she went to check if the room was ready. We got checked in and told where everything was. There was... More

Had the pleasure of staying at this hostel on Saturday the 13th July 13 during the final assault on the last stages of the Pennine Way. Great Hostel, Great manager / owner who cooked a mean breakfast. The owner having forgotten to pack our muffins in our packed lunches, loaded them into her car and reunited us with them in... More
