Excellent hotel except for breakfast experience. Good accommodation, very comfortable and accessible. Breakfast overpriced and service lacking, plates not available and food for continental type breakfast not refilled. A pity because we may well want to visit the area again.

Me and my friend came here the other day for a spa day with cream tea included. The treatment rooms were very nice as was the relaxation room. The spa lounge could do with a redecorate to suit the atmosphere better. The pool was nice, the sauna and steam room were nice enough. The restaurant for the cream tea was... More

Stayed in Signature suite for 2 nights, no hot water had to ask 3 times for complimentary drinks which were very warm when finally arrived. When room was serviced our dirty glasses left bottles of water not replaced as they were empty. Not what we expected for the price we paid

We arrived 2 hours after the check in time and the room still wasn't ready. Had to wait 10 mins to be seated for breakfast. Then another 15 min before anyone took our order. Tea and coffee was finally produced, but no milk! Ask the waiting staff for milk, still none arrived. We understood the staff were busy but, every... More

The hotel is in a magnificent setting with stunning views over the Cheshire countryside. It is close to Chester and other places of interest. We booked a Classic room which was spacious and well appointed. The bathroom included both a bath and a separate shower cubicle. Supplies of toiletries were very limited and no face cloths were provided. Public areas... More

We chose this hotel to explore the area around Chester and had a lovely stay in comfortable surroundings. Dinner was very good on our first night but breakfast was disappointing, buffet was not replenished quickly enough, if at all, to cater for the large groups of golfing guests. The staff were friendly but they struggled to cope at breakfast time... More

Overall the Portal Hotel is comfortable and clean place to stay. The staff are friendly and the rooms are of a good size. The food was good but a bit cheffy, the bar meals were more to my liking. The 2 golf courses are interesting and challenging with quite a few quirky holes to keep you interested. If you are... More

Having visited the spa here a few years ago, I returned with my husband thanks to the spacious pool and nice restaurant views. We arrived for a spa day and were greeted and shown round, so far so good. Pool side was uncrowded and relaxing apart from two clusters of ladies. One group were obviously part of a fitness company... More

After just returning from a golf break at Portal I am breathing a sigh of relief! I was very sceptical after reading some reviews on this hotel - I was concerned for nothing!! Our two night, two rounds Golf Break was fantastic! On arrival the place looked very smart with well manicured grounds and gardens. Car parking can be a... More

Service, presentation, comfort and value was excellent on out two day and one night stay. Food was outstanding and we are already planning our return for next year. Taxi ride to Chester town centre takes about 20-25 mins and again provides a great night out. The spa, whilst not experienced personally looks superb and all other guest partaking in spa... More
