The staff are very welcoming and attentive, we didn't have to wait around for anything. I wasn't too sure what to expect for the treatment as it was a 'face and body sensation'. It was a 30 minute hot stone back massage and a 30 minute facial. The massage was gorgeous, I really couldn't fault it, the therapist really listened... More

Just returned from a 2 night mid week break. I have to say I was a little worried about the service following reading some of the reviews however our stay was wonderful and would have no hesitation in returning. We were given a warm greeting from Gaynor on reception who we found accommodating and full of useful information about hotel... More

The hotel appears confused; dated design and seems incompatible with the excellent golf course. Plus it feels like it can't decide if it's a venue for corporate entertaining/weddings or a hotel for guests. Rooms are a little shabby, broken fittings, thin walls, damaged internal walls, no power to the shower & chilly. Staff looked slightly terrified (possibly because of reviews!)... More

Pleasant hotel and surroundings let down by untrained staff no leadership or direction. The rooms were adequate the spa facilities need to be upgraded if they want to compete with other establishments vying for the same type of customer base a shame I will not be returning.

We booked a 2 night stay with 4 friends over the August bank holiday weekend. We were extremely disappointed with the service given at the hotel. People were queuing at the bar as the service was extremely slow and it took us 25 minutes to get served! Also ordered afternoon tea, which after a long wait the tea came -... More

One night spa break for myself and my wife. The accommodation was very good, spa facilities were good but lacking a few facilities such as hit tubs. The foid was very good. We felt that all the staff were pleasant and well mannered but lacked experience and a little more training. There did seem to be a perception of communication... More

We loved the hotel, our room and the setting. We had chosen a busy weekend (our wedding anniversary) and regretted this. The service in the dining room was slow, but the staff were doing their best especially at breakfast time. There was little choice in the dinner menu, though what was served was well cooked and nicely presented. I wouldn't... More

First the good bits: a superb location with great views, an excellent gym and spa centre and possibly the best black pudding in the world (Macleod & Macleod of Stornoway). Sadly, this is offset by incompetence at all levels. We have visited twice in the past month and on both occasions the inability to deliver food in a timely manner... More

We booked to stay for four nights. On booking our stay we were told we could check in at 2pm. When we arrived our rooms were not ready and we had to wait several hours. Once in our rooms they were clean, tidy and big. The beds were very comfortable and large. The next morning we had to wait over... More

Having stayed in a few Macdonald hotels I felt quite safe booking this one for 2 nights for a chester races/ golf break. How wrong was I !!! It started off bad and got worse as the stay progressed. Firstly we had booked 4 rooms, different catagories- the receptionist put everyone in the wrong rooms... My son was meant to... More
