The hotel and gardens are undeniably beautiful but this hotel suffers from a confused identity. Is it a day spa, restaurant destination, national trust garden or hotel? Day trippers are given preference over hotel guests. Families with children are not welcomed, some staff were actually quite rude, even though the hotel website claims they are. Also when you are paying... More

Cliveden, personifies the all time stately country home, which has successfully stayed true to its classic grand structure, yet offers the warmth, comfort and attention to detail of the perfect boutique hotel. The house restaurant offers a wonderful menu and the library bar, a comfortable retreat..

This is the most amazing place, a massive National Trust mansion that is a really smart hotel. The welcome, and all the service, is discreet and well timed - you never have to think to ask for anything it just appears at the right moment. The rooms are the ultimate luxury, is is possible to complain that the four poster... More

Thank you for your kind recommendation of us. Delighted that your time with us was much enjoyed. Your comment about climbing into bed inspired me and I have ordered a few "hop up" bedside stools that will help you next time and we very much hope there will be a next time! Kind regards Sue W More

It's old world Britain. A real escape into English country side, fabulous gardens and an architecture that is grand, elegant and yet cozy. The rooms are sumptuous and comfortable. The service could sometimes benefit from a bit more of five star efficiency, but in the scheme of things who cares? The short trip from the bustling stress of central London... More

I think the previous era you refer to was celebrated in style at Cliveden and we hope to carry on that tradition and we can only hope to match the style and panache of those who went before us. So pleased you enjoyed your surroundings whilst you were with us and we very much hope to see you again one... More

We stayed for two nights, to attend a black tie charity dinner. Every thing was beyond perfect. Sue W and her team were absolutely fabulous. The reopened restaurant was superb, with excellent choices and very good wines. All in all, a once in a lifetime experience, although we have been twice!

Well if you have been twice you will have to make it a hat trick ;) thank you for your very kind comments. I remember the black tie event well, it was a special night indeed and one we hope to repeat in 2016. Kind regards Sue W More

After the first "wow" factor of driving past the fountain to park right by the house we were struck by the friendly and helpful staff making everything easy. We went for the standard room which was quite luxurious enough, with a large and comfortable bed. The spa has outdoor and indoor heated pools and hot tubs / Jacuzzis, perfect for... More

Glad you indulged and then had a chance to run it off! The estate is a runners paradise, even a certain Olympiad has covered a few circuits of this magical estate! So pleased the team looked after you well, thank you for giving the team a special mention. We hope to see you again soon. Kind regards Sue W More

The whiff of scandal gives this grand home of the Astor's a rakish edge. Avoid arriving on a Sunday or Thursday afternoon, when the entire house and gardens are swarming with shuffling, beady eyed, Guardian-wielding retirees out to wring every penny out of their National Trust subscriptions. Cliveden ticks all the boxes for a dirty weekend - expansive landscaped grounds,... More

Cliveden is such a stunning property that is does attract many visitors on sunny summer afternoons which make the moments when you have the estate to yourselves all the more special. Between 5pm and 10am peace returns to the gardens. My favourite time is enjoying the sunset from the 1st floor terrace with not a sole in site. Many different... More

Just had a wonderful tasting menu lunch at the newly refurbished restaurant here at Cliveden. Chose the wine pairing with it. All the courses were excellent. Great place for a posh lunch! Pea velouté amuse bouche, delicious cold crab starter, sea trout to follow in a tasty broth. Husband had squab pigeon in a thick sauce, I had the best... More

Thank you for your promptly written review. So pleased you enjoyed all the dishes André and the team prepared for you. The views do make a visit to The André Garrett Restaurant complete, pretty spectacular. I often think we should have binoculars on each table to be able to home in on all the details of the vista but then... More

My wife and I really enjoyed the sheer luxury of Afternoon Tea at Cliveden - especially as we were not paying! Opulent surroundings, extremely attentive well-trained staff, beautiful food. We really needed the walk in the gardens afterwards!!

This magnificent National Trust location offers an away from it all hotel where we stayed for two nights and found it easy to unwind and relax in beautiful surroundings. Our refurbished suite was superb in every aspect and overlooked the main gardens. The i pad ordering system for room service was simple and efficient. The breakfast was sufficient but service... Delighted that you left us relaxed and having been able to unwind. We so have such beautiful gardens and I am delighted you enjoyed your surroundings. We have had a very busy year refurbishing all elements of the house and this just leaves us the Spa to do. We will certainly make this corner of the house just as stunning... More
