There were so many wonderful experiences at the Hotel Tierra Maya it is difficult to know where to begin. The staff was wonderful. Eduardo the manager spent time talking with us each day as I noticed he did with all the guests during the time we were there. He always made sure our specific needs were addressed and we felt... Xcalak is very remote (60km drive from Mahahual, which is a very small village). We drove all the way from Calakmul (took us about 3.5 hrs). When we got to Xcalak, the sargassum (seaweed) was quite smelly and made the beaches look less than appealing. We kept driving, hoping not to find any seaweed in Tierra Maya... but it wasn't... Oh Eduardo, I miss you so! My boyfriend and I stayed here 10 days, had an upstairs room with small kitchenette which is great if you're staying a longer period of time. Eduardo couldn't be a more friendly, gracious host. He also makes a mean margarita. It's rare to find a place in Xcalak with food (if you've done your... More

The Tierra Maya staff embodies everything that exceptional hospitality service should be. The resort is very cared for and clean, the rooms are well appointed and have charming character - warm colors, authentic furniture and hammocks on the patio! Dining was always a pleasurable experience - fresh lobster, shrimp, and snook available every night. After a long day of fishing,... More

The hotel manager Eduardo goes above and beyond to make sure you are well cared for. The food was always very good, with plenty of choices on the menu. The seafood was great, they even cooked items on request that were not on the menu. The rooms were very clean, beds were changed daily and made. The bathrooms were clean,... More

The fishing and the snorkeling/diving are the area's main attractions. The reef and coralheads are pristine. A boat shows up at the dock on an hour's notice. This may be the best of the half dozen options to stay in a small hotel in Xcalak. In looking around we did not find a better facility. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are... More

We were not even staying at the hotel, but were treated like luxury by the owner who cooked us an authentic mexican breakfast. The snorkeling right from the dock was the best we found! Lots of coral beds, clean and calm water protected by the reef. The town of Xcalac is a nice quiet retreat!

We were a group of 6 there to bone fish. The rooms are clean and comfortable including the beds and hot showers and toilets. The sink had no hot water. The hotel restaurant had good food. What I appreciated most about the place were the people who cared for us from the kitchen to the room service and the manager.... More

Tucked away in a place that is lost in time. The small, quaint Hotel Tierra Maya takes you there. Somewhere half way between paradise and no where, one will find Eduardo( and sometimes his family: Carmen, Alex and Julietta) to tend to your every need. Quiet, neat and tidy. This hotel is kept in pristine condition. The beach and dock... More
