I highly reccomend staying at Teirra Maya if you go to Xcalak. We stayed in Xcalak and adopted Dave and Kim as our friends. Even though we didn't stay at their place, we ate breakfast there everyday. Breakfasts were delicious, their beach and coral reefs off their dock were beautiful, the dinner we ate was outstanding! We didn't stay in... more

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Tierra Maya even though we are not fishermen. This little resort is a destination mainly for that. It is also a lovely spot for relaxing and getting away from it all. We enjoyed riding their old bikes into town. The bikes were a bit creaky but my husband found a plastic engine oil can... more

If you're looking for peace, quiet, solitude and a great hotel, then you've found your spot. Kim and Dave are wonderful hosts. Daniel and Eduardo are so helpful, friendly and courteous. We stayed in room #4. It's a terrific room and we spent a lot of time just relaxing on the the balcony. I had a great snooze in one... more

January 2009. We just dropped in without a reservation. Don't advise you do this because it's a great place for fishermen (bone fishing, permits, baracuda) to hang out. Dave is a great host assisted by two equally qualified helpers - Daniel and Eduardo. They'll go out of their way to help. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Laundry service available. No... more

My husband and I set out with another couple to have what we hoped would be a different type of vacation and that's exactly what we had. This was truly a refreshing getaway from the hectic stressful life most of us are used to. As soon as we arrived we felt like family (no kidding). Tierre Maya is secluded on... more

This resort is known as a flyfisherman's mecca: bonefish, tarpon, snook and permit, with guides who really know their business. My son Alex is an expert flyfisherman who has returned to Xcalak and TierraMaya many times, and on the November 08 trip, I went along for the ride. I had a super time! The accomodations and grounds are top notch,... more

The lodge, the hosts Kim and Dave, the food, the fishing - simply the best combination I have enjoyed fishing around the world. This was my third trip in as many years and I am booked for both April and November of next year. more

We spent a week here, fishing everyday. The guides were fantastic, very knowledgeable especially when it came to fishing for permit on a fly. The day always started out with a great breakfast and ended hanging out in the beautiful bar telling fish tales, enjoying one of Kim's famous margaritas. I sampled a different entre every night and they were... more

Didn't make reservations and were lucky enough to get a room. We asked to see the room and instantly loved it. The room was very clean and charming. Beautiful wood windows and simple decor. There was plenty of storage space. No AC in the rooms, but didn't need it at all. We had purchased some things for the drive and... more
