This month I took a group of 12 students on a study abroad trip to the Yucatán. The bulk of our trip took place in the historic town of Valladolid. Our academic focus was both Mayan geography and Spanish colonial history. Since the methodology behind study abroad trips lies in positive experiences students have in a new culture, picking the... My husband and I intended to stay in Valladolid for one night on the way to Chitchen Itza and Merida. We fell in love with everything about this hotel and the town and extended an extra day to relax and explore. Traveling with a friend (hubby had to leave early) on the way back to Cancun, I again wanted to... More

A friend and I stayed at this wonderful hotel on a recent trip to the Yucatan. This hotel was a quick walk (3 blocks) from the bus station and one entrance faced the beautiful public square. It was an excellent central spot to walk to local cenotes, restaurants, and down some charming side streets. The hotel was nice and all... More

This is a well located, charming old colonial era hotel in very good condition with a very nice restaurant and pleasant staff. We arrived late in the afternoon in time to rest for a bit, shower and head to the restaurant downstairs. The "cochinita pibil" (local specialty shredded pork tacos) is very good and well presented here. My wife enjoyed... More

Very nice restaurant. I got two of the recommended local dishes and they were both great. Service was good as well, but the dining area was really my great. I didn't stay in the hotel so I can't comment much on that, but the location is great.

I wanted to spend one night in Valladolid to see the town and then move onto Chichen Itza. I had read that hotels were so cheap in the town that it was worth staying somewhere in style. Equally, I had read that El Meson de Marques was usually a base for groups, which might put some people off and that... More

We stopped here when transiting from Cancun to Merida. The town is lovely but the hotel is captivating. Traditional Yucatan cuisine is available and everything was scrumptious. I don't think you can make a bad selection. Be sure to look around the hotel as well as the town. Time well spent.

On our usual stopover in Valladolid after flying into Cancun airport and heading inland we decided to "splurge" on the Meson instead of Maria de la Luz. We had booked online and quickly realized upon arriving- as happens quite often- that an upgrade from the basic room to a "cuarto superior" was necessary to savor a warm Valladolid evening on...
