We loved this place! The people are so friendly and accommodating and the rooms are great. It's the perfect place to get away and unplugged. The restaurant is not very good but acceptable. This is not a place for someone who is looking for a rich night life or fancy restaurants. It's the lay on the beach, read a good... More

We have visited Tulum a number of times previously and were looking for somewhere a little less overrun . Mahahual was described as being Tulum 15 years ago so sounded perfect. It didn't disappoint. Almaplena is a few miles from the main strip but is located right by the beach and is wonderfully peaceful, allowing for you to simply enjoy... More

Made a tour from Playa del Carmen to Almaplena Hotel that took us about 3,5 hours. We were kind of lost as there was no sign visible at night to enter Mahahual-Xcalak "highway". You need to know very good the road or take with you GPS to drive at night (we did not have one, just the instruction that we... More

We stayed one night in March on our way back to TULUM. The rooms are quite large, and nicely decorated and very clean. We didi not swim as the seagrass down here was the worst I ahem ever seen. The seagrass is not the hotels fault, and is a problem this year all over the caribbean. The food was goo... More

Mahahual is a beautiful place. This family owned hotel is charming, I would describe it more like a B&B. We had a room with a nice Balcony with no roof so at night we could watch the stars! soooo nice. The only con is that the restrooms are kind of smelly, even the one in our room was stinky even... We booked this trip for our port stop in Costa Maya on February 13th. I had read several reviews on how great and peaceful this place is.... and it was wonderful. First off, the booking process was super easy. Emails were sent back and forth and all directions given to us on finding taxis was very clear and easy. The... More

We visited in January after reading reviews on TripAdvisor. The booking was very easy online through e-mails. The staff answered all questions, and sent great directions on meeting the taxi which took us to the resort. The drive took 25 minutes through the countryside, ending the last mile or so on a dirt road. It was very beautiful, and provided... More

My husband and I booked the all inclusive beach break, including transportation, for our cruise stop at Costa Maya on Jan. 21. We found the taxis to take us there by following the map provided with our confirmation. The drive to Almaplena is 20-30 minutes down some desolate roads through the mangroves. At times we wondered what we got ourselves... More

Nice quiet place, no crowds did I mention quiet? Great snorkeling right off the beach and shrimp and steak tacos/ fajitas where great! Would not hesitate to go back and getaway away from the crowds. Booked the one day excursion off their website and met the cab at cruise terminal. A 25-30 minute ride, and your on the secluded no... More

My wife and I reserved the beach break day for our cruise day in port at Costa Maya. So glad we came here. The all-inclusive price meant we could enjoy the day without wondering how much things would cost. The property is clean, hosts were gracious, the food delicious, and the beach beautiful.
