Akumal Beach Resort We stayed at ABR in the last week of January 09 and had a very nice time. Just for a bit of reference, we are a couple in our late 30’s. We like to lay in the sun, read books , snorkel, drink, and not spend a tons of cash. In general we found the resort to... more

You need to read all the reviews and work through you own head to see if this place works for you. We were not suprised by anything nor bothered by anything because of the reviews. Four of us went on this trip and we had a blast and would return again. We wanted to try a smaller place with a... more

I stayed ay ABR from April 19-26 for my hubby's and my wedding. the review: “Hotel is a dump, beach is awesome, food terrible, service lousy"'s first paragraph is 100% dead on with a to the point description of this place. My experience wasn't as bad in the details but i knew that my guest were less that impressed. We... more

My husband and I stayed here AGAIN. We cannot say enough nice things about this resort! The staff are amazing, the beach is awesome and the resort is a place to hang your hat at the end of the day. We don't come to ABR for the food or the 5* frills - this is not the place for you... more

The downside: Very small resort with one buffet that served fish and pasta every night besides one.The other restaurant Was Mexican then switched to Italian every other night. The Mexican night was pretty good. (still no steak served) We skipped Italian because it was always fish. There is not always somewhere to eat open at ABR, if you get a... more

This resort has absolutely no frills--no landscaping except by the lobby, lots of bricks instead of real pavement, very simply decorated rooms . It also has terrible coffee and no name-brand alcohol, not even Captain Morgan rum! The beach is wonderful, although it was really windy all week. I would not return here again, but probably stay nearby due to... more

Our whole experience was awesome! One of the best vacations we've ever taken! Let me start out by saying we've stayed at many other 5* resorts ~ in Hawaii 3 times, Bahama's twice, Puero Rico & Jamaica. We aren't very picky people and thought our stay was very nice at the Akumal Beach Resort. The check-in experience was great. It... more

We stayed here for 7 days and had a really good time. We arrived early and were given our room. Other places on this trip made us wait until the 'official' check in time before they would do that! The bedroom was OK but the bathroom was a real mess - cracked tiles, eccentric taps (turned off and on in... more

How this place gets a three star rating is beyond me. The grounds are a mess, the rooms are on life support, and I've had better food in jail. Not something I'm proud of, but it's the only thing I could compare it to. The only positives are the Entertainment staff, a couple of bartenders and the beach. Really, the... more
