The rooms reek of mold. No escaping it, all our clothes got it too. We couldn't change hotels (really tried) because everywhere was booked with day of the dead holiday. They tried to say it was incense, what a joke. Whole place needs to be scrubbed with clorox and needs ventilation especially in the unventilated bathrooms. Buffet was good and... More

Hacienda mariposas is excellent for a romantic getaway, superb service, quiet and the place is beatifull, I see a lot of complains about odor, fauna and other things like it that initially made me hesitate, but remeber that it is in a forest!!!!! so what I found was what could be expected about that

We arrived at Hacienda Mariposas after a gruelling drive from Zitacuaro. The contrast between this property and the warm welcome that we had at San Cayatno could not have been greater. We arrived around 8pm, and had a hard time finding anyone to let us in past the gated entrance. We had hassles getting registered, with a sense for the... More

Well....I should have read the reviews first, so now I share my story in hopes that another traveler doesn't get the same treatment. This is a small, very small family run attempt at a bed and breakfast. The reservation was accepted for a $100 dollar a night room, which when we arrived were not available but they would let us... June, 2004 What can I say....we were in central Mexico for two weeks and wanted a plush experience in the middle of roughing it. Boy did we get taken. The hotel was charming at first as we toured the grounds and our daughters were told they would be able to take a morning horse ride and then go to the... More

If we only knew that this was not in town, and that this was not a professionally run place, we never would have come here. What should have been a nice trip caused us to leave after only two nights to a much better place in town. Noise, traffic from the road, food that made us sick, and no heat... More

Nov. 5, 2006 We just returned from spending two weeks in and around Mexico City. We deceided to go to Patzcuaro for the Day of the Dead Celebration. When I first phoned Hacienda Mariposas the owner "Renee" got on the phone and said "yes" we do have a room and we are offering a "special deal" for Day of the... More

After staying here and visiting the town, we were surprised to see that this place is average when you compare it with what else is available in town. For one the rooms were always drafty and very cold. The small kava style fireplace did little to warm the dank room. The service was ok, but sporadic. Included breakfast was fresh... More

Hacienda Mariposas is essentially a groups of cabins that sit just off the highway about 3km above and away from Patzcuaro (a lovely town). First, the positives.. The ambience is very charming. There are semi-domesticated rabbits and ducks cruising the grounds which are very green and well maintaind. The breakfast (included) is buffet style and is excellent and prior to... More
