My friend and I decided to try the afternoon tea at Dalvay today. We arrived at 2:15pm, and were not seated (in their mostly empty dining room) until 2:45pm. We ordered our tea and snacks, which took another 45 minutes to arrive at our table. While I was eating one of the cakes, I suddenly crunched down on a VERY... More

Dalvay by the Sea is the antithesis of the modern, research-designed chain hotels that many of us stay in routinely. The research designed chain hotels provide whatever the modern, mostly business oriented traveler wants: dozens of electricity plugs in each room, desks and lighting suitable for working, quick and often free breakfasts, uniformity of properties and rooms, quick in and... My wife grew up on the Anne of Green Gables books and more than anything she wanted to stay at this hotel. We were able to book one night, July 29th, and it was more than we could have ever hoped for. We had any absolutely beautiful room with a wonderful view of the lake and sea. We spent some... More

Escape the hustle and bustle of the 21st century and enjoy a return to the gracious living of the 1800's. Dalvay by the Sea features excellent service from friendly, smiling staff who are ready to help with any request. The hotel is immaculate and full of atmosphere of a bygone age. We even heard a ghost story! Every good establishment... More

Dalvay is in a national park which was a bit of a surprise as we had to fork over $40 to get there. However, we agreed we would have paid that sooner or later; we fell in love with PEI right away so not much could spoil our overall good humour. We decided to splurge a bit on our stay... More

Family of seven in a one bedroom cottage. Read trip advisor before coming and was cautious/ weary about food, but thought it must be ok. Well, i will not be as subtle as other reviewers. Food is inedible. Kids meals are 12$. The kids pizza was puff pastry with three pepperoni pieces and less than an ounce if cheese. It... More

Arrived after having toured Prince Edward island, which had been a charming experience. Dalvay is a magnificent property -- on the dunes, gorgeous mansion, large well appointed rooms, impressive interior architecture -- the fire places have to be seen! Dinner takes place in a somewhat formal dining room, with views of the garden (and the geese), the menu was well... More

This is an experience. The main facilities are housed in a certified Historic residence with a number of bedrooms available. Its not for everyone — no air-conditioning, no elevators to the second and third floors since the historic preservation rules would not permit them. And it is expensive by P.E.I. standards. However, all the bedrooms are furnished with antique furniture... More

The room was nice, but nothing special, and was hot and humid without air conditioning. The food was overpriced and not fantastic -- fine, but not up to the price charged. The hotel is too far from Cavendish and other attractions (nothing they can do about that, but it added an hour to our drives everyday to go back and... More

Dalvay 20, 30 years ago was really something (and I hope that one day soon it is brought back to its glory because it is such a special and unique property and beautiful location). But sadly, it is really poorly run these days (stayed for 3 days in August). Building was failing and upkeep of grounds, building and amenities was... More

Dalvay-By-The-Sea, a National Historic Site of Canada, is an elegant Queen Anne Revival home built in 1895 by a Scottish-American oil tycoon. A summer resort hotel since the 1930's, Dalvay By-The-Sea is located at the east end of Prince Edward Island's National Park on scenic Dalvay Beach. There are 25 guest rooms; all are largely furnished in period antiques and all rooms offer a four-piece private bath. Each of our rooms is singular and unique.
