Staying at the Dalvay at the tail end of the season in September, my companion and I enjoyed several lovely days walking along the splendid beach located just a short walk away, idling away time in our comfortable room or sitting in comfy chairs in front of one or another of the wood burning fireplaces in the central hall and... We stayed at Dalvay by the Sea recently, during a trip to the Island and were blown away by our experience. Going into it, I thought we were booking an over-priced hotel but thought that it might be nice to try it once because of the location and the history. Leaving Dalvay, "over-priced" is definitely not a word I would... More

I fully agree that we are not overpriced and I thank you for your appreciation of the overall experience that we offer here. This hotel provides one of the most unique experiences for our guests as we allow you to "unplug" and take a step back in time. Your comments about our staff warms my heart as everyone here tries... If you want "new" stay at a hotel with flashing lights. This house creaks and the bathrooms have claw foot tubs and cast iron sinks. There's no tv or phones or a/c. There are spectacular grounds to walk or ride bikes and relax. We stayed in 2010 and brought family back in 2011 to experience Dalvay with us. It is... More

From the outside Dalvay lives up to its reputation - elegant old lake front house with lovely garden and wonderful red sand beach across the road - definitely a spectacular setting. Well worth the high price until you have to deal with the inefficient staff and crumbling interior. The main floor of the house is well maintained and furnished,, including... More

The Hotel, grounds and common areas are absolutely gorgeous and thank you for the kind words. The bike rentals and gift shop are both lovely aspects of the Hotel and I am very pleased to see you were able to enjoy them both. The property is regulated by Parks Canada but we will make every effort possible to improve this... More

Don't stay here unless you don't mind paying top dollar for a badly managed and maintained summer cottage type hotel. From the entrance ( which is not well marked ) you pass by a blown up "cut out" of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge ( the hotel is dwellng on the fame of their recent visit, just check their... This old inn is lovely and in a gorgeous setting. The big fireplaces are wonderful. Prince William and Kate were recently here, but did not stay here and we now know why...the mattresses are antique (ours had huge dips in it that had to come from many years of bodies sleeping there), the plumbing is antique (you can hear every... The Hotel, grounds and fireplace are absolutely gorgeous and thank you for the kind words. As fans of Road to Avonlea, it was so much fun to stay at Dalvay-by-the-Sea. The hotel is beautiful and well maintained. There are so many activities to do on the property and you only need to cross the street to get to the beach. The staff was wonderful- it's hard to come home and have no one waiting on... More

Complaints include the plethora of spiders attached to the windows, a bevy of overworked, underpaid college students to run the place, paper-thin walls allowed our neighbor's snoring to keep us up most of the night, aided by the ability to hear every word (& raucous drunken giggles) emitted from the veranda, a symphony of creaky floors and an ancient bed... The Dalvay is a quintessential experience in the history, intimacy, charm and modest grace of the Canadian people. Clean, warm, welcoming, the old manse with lovely rooms in which to stay, modern traditional cottages, public rooms which welcome guests and those attending for simply tea or a glass of wine by a gorgeous soft fire, traditional fare, a splendid full... Beautiful setting for a fine building, both outside and in. The room was a fine wood panelled corner room overlooking the lake. From there things slowly began to unravel - waiting in a long line to be escorted to both dinner an breakfast , wine that may have not been loved before being held in the wine cabinet, a disappointment... The rooms and building are designed to retain Dalvay’s historic value and all changes are regulated by Parks Canada. As well we have changed ownership and management this season and we are striving towards making the Hotel the desired destination... More
