Inuvik is NOT Miami or San Francisco. It's not even Wichita. It's the true Arctic, where houses tilt on their foundations due to permafrost. Water and sewer are piped above ground in insulated pipes or stored above ground and pumped in or out by tank trucks. Fresh groceries come by plane or over 450 miles of gravel road. 1 pound... More

We did A LOT of research before went into Arctic Circle. We wanted to see the Northern Lights, to do the dog-sleding, and we wanted a warm place to stay. This place has everything we need! They even offer vehicle rentals. We rented a big track (forget the brand), went to Tuk, where we saw the frozen North Ocean. On... More

This place is located just a bit outside the city and though listed as B&B you only get one of the Bs. In the summer you have to fight the skeeters. You have a chance to see all the sled dogs they use in the winter when they take them out for exercise. There is free wifi but it is... More

We were picked up in a van from Dawson City , stayed overnight at Eagle Plains, flew to Tuk with a guided tour there, stayed at the Chalet in Inuvik and flew back to Dawson. Owners Olav and Judi were ever helpful and accommodating and really made us feel welcome. Their knowledge, stories and experience of the NWT and the... More

We were here a number of years ago as a family and the property and the owners still resonate with us warmly. The cabin was clean and cozy, the lounge area was a nice meeting area with other travelers, and visiting with the dogs in their summer kennel was a delight for our young daughter every day. The property is... More

The Arctic Chalet B&B is much more than a B&B or a luxury hotel . . it is a Northern Experience! Checkout their website for an overview of the various accommodation option (each a good deal) and Arctic activities (each a Northern adventure). Even if you are not a dog people, you will fall in love with one or more... More

If you do not want to stay in a hotel in Inuvik, Arctic Chalet is the only other viable option. The cabins are nice (by northern standards) and suitably appointed. The breakfast is self serve in the rooms with a variety of provided foods. HOWEVER, should you be there during mosquito season your cabin will have many mosquitos in it... More

I was in Inuvik for work, and really wanted to experience dog sledding. Judi was able to fit me in last minute. I had a team of 6 dogs, and unlike dog sledding in other places (Yellowknife), you actually drive your own sled! It was very cold when I went (-38 degrees), but they provided warm clothes, boots, and mittens... More

Judi and Olav are amazing hosts at this picturesque lodge and log cabins. A large trail system through northern woods and lakes is wonderful for dog sledding, skijoring, cross country skiing, hiking and running. Beautiful white huskies are available for tours to fit most interests. The cabins are very attractive and comfortable with in-floor heating, kitchens, spacious bathing facilities, internet,... More

I took a trip July 2014, coming from Southern Ontario. I was already planning to be in Whitehorse, and wanted an add-on. This is a great one, highly recommended. I found a package online, where Olav and Judi would arrange all transportation. Included was: - flight to Dawson City - 1 night overnight in Dawson City (at the 5th Avenue... More
