Really nice hostel with both dorms and private rooms. Nice Kitchen. Like the fact that there is one big table because it helps meeting other travellers. One of the cleanest hostels that I have been in. Nice view of the lake. Good location to explore the Cabot Trail from.

We stayed just one night in one of the private rooms, shared bathroom with the other private room, very quiet and clean hostel. Extremely comfortable bed! We were just here for a very quick stop, but it would e a fun place to stay a few nights, get to know the other travellers, play some of their board games and... More

Very clean, super friendly staff and guests. Stayed two nights on or way to the Cabot trail and One night on our way back. Perfect location for visits to beaches, national parks, celeidhs, Louisbourg and ferries to Newfoundland. The private rooms upstairs also have a private balcony, queen size beds, and a private lounge. This place is awesome!! Loved that... More

Bear on the Lake is a very nice place to stop. It is very clean and the staff make you feel comfortable. You will find everything you need. There are some nice rules that help to keep the place clean as: to remove your shoes, to move back your dishes when you finish to wash it, ...I am sure you... More

I agree with the other reviews - this is a WELL run hostel with a great atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the other guests. Such interesting people and conversations! The private room we had was better than many hotel rooms, and the view is amazing. We enjoyed being able to make our own meals, and felt like we didn't... More

Bear on the Lake was a fantastic experience, wonderfully welcoming, friendly and a great place to stop for a couple of nights. Everyone we met there was happy to chat and the staff were fantastic and really knowledgeable about the area!

I met lots of people at Bear on the Lake, young and old and inbetween, from all over the world. Normally I like to move on to new places when I travel, but I stayed here longer than I've stayed at any hostel, and I never ran out of things to do. Hiking, kayaking, bird tours are all close by.... From the moment I walked in I felt at home. The staff were an absolute delight, kind and amazing energy. The hostel is spotless and comfortable. You are only a short bike ride away from food or you can grab it along the way and enjoy your stay at the hostel with its beautiful views. The staff are extremely knowledgeable... More

This hostel is a friendly place, located close to the start of the Cabot Trail and with a nice view of the Bras d'Or Lake. The hostel is very clean and well-kept, and the manager was helpful and very knowledgeable of the local area. One of the best hostels I've ever stayed at!

Staying at Bear on the Lake guesthouse reminded me of a big family dinner. The hostel was like a big family home with a variety of ages staying at there. You even had lots of board games to keep you occupied - Twister is a great way of getting to meet your fellow travellers! The area itself is stunning and... More
