This charming restaurant with wonderful food and a warm, friendly chef/owner was a highlight of our trip to Nova Scotia. It was even fun getting off the beaten path to find this little place and well worth the short hike down the hillside to get to it. Once there, the view was incredible and the natural setting quite stunning. The... More

Be prepared for a rough few miles to get to this lighthouse. The road is in need of repair or paving. I couldn't go over 20 mph in any stretch. But the view once we got here was breathtaking. You can see for miles in most directions and just enjoy the peacefulness of the lighthouse and surrounding area. I'm sure... More

Incredible views. Be prepared for a steep hike back up to the parking lot, but the experience is worth it! The wind, the waves on the crashing rocks are a perfect setting for this lighthouse. You can visualize a stormy night and shops searching for safe passage.

Staying at this guesthouse was the highlight of our trip to Nova Scotia (enjoyed it more than Cape Breton). The setting is amazing, the room comfortable, and the meals extraordinary. We stayed two nights in Room 2--one night is not enough time to enjoy the scenery of the area. Darcy is a very casual and enjoyable host. The people we... More

We stayed two nights at the lighthouse on Cape d'Or. It was the experience of a lifetime! Everyone should try this at least once. Darcy was a great host. He cooked breakfast and dinner- both were awesome. The views were great and the guesthouse was clean and comfortable. Yes the "hike" down to the guesthouse was a little challenging with... More

Just got back from our visit to Nova Scotia which included one night at the Cape D'Or Lighthouse. As I was trying to tune out the noise of my neighbor's lawn tractor this morning, I recalled that a week ago I was just listening to silence. The peace one feels here is amazing. We just sat on the benches with... More

We had been looking forward to doing something out of the ordinary on this trip and did we ever get it! The access road is as bad as everyone says, but if you go slowly you'll get there. The little path to the lighthouse is also quite steep, essentially a hiking path. At the bottom, however, you will be rewarded... More

I stayed at Cape D’or last autumn. As the fog rolled into my home town tonight I remembered Cape D’or and wished I was there again to listen to the fog horn. To all you who have reviewed Cape D’or and dissed it due to its idiosyncrasies...get over yourselves ! The host has never portrayed it to be any more... More

we knew nothing of this lighthouse until the day we found it. we were in the area visiting cape Chignecto provincial park and happened to see a sign for this lighthouse driving down the road. the access road is bumpy. very bumpy. and steep. and the access trail from the parking area is steep, caution should be used by elderly... I've been to Cape D'or two or three times just on day trips. Although I've never stayed here overnight or eaten at the restaurant, I've only heard good things about both. The views are beautiful not only at the Lighthouse property, but on the drive all the way up from Parrsboro. My only complaint is that the road (I believe... More
