We stayed here in order to visit Red Bay Basque Whaling Station. Very hospitable staff, very clean place and dinner and breakfast were delicious. We were with a tour and our Tour Manager, Michael promised us great food. Thanks for a great visit. We had a bit of a Canada Day party there and it was cool to be in... More

After driving almost 1,200 kms (14 hours +), we arrived at the hotel. It is on the main road so very easy to find. Hotel was clean but is wooden construction so people walking can be heard. We arrived after 11:00PM and the hotel did have us as a late arrival. However, there was nobody at the front desk. This... More

I stayed at this hotel with my spouse and mother last week (early June 2014). We chose it since it's convenient to both the Newfoundland-Labrador ferry and to the National Historic Site at Red Bay, which was the reason for our visit. The hotel is less than 10 minutes away from the ferry and about 1 hour from Red Bay... More

We stayed two nights after arriving by the MV Apollo ferry. Apart from a small bed, the room was nice and we received a nice welcome from the receptionist who doubled as the gift shop manager. The attached restaurant was very handy.

Rooms adequate, clean. Restaurant has good food and good service. Good location for exploring the south shore drive. Ferry ride can be wild or calm. Staff friendly. Nice gift shop with handwoven goods.

As others have indicated, there are few choices for lodging in the area. Rooms in the rear of the hotel appear to be in a newer addition. This is where my room was located. The room was spacious, with modern, up-to-date furnishings. Compared with rooms at other motels on the Viking trail which were clean but very basic, this room... More

Our second of two nights was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. The hotel held a large wedding upstairs of our room which proceeded to blast music so loud that that the bass line caused vibrations in our room until 4 am. This was during a night in which I had to get up at 5:30 to... More

While it's true there are few choices in the area when following the Viking Trail into Labrador - and most of the staff is friendly and restaurant "ok" - the motel rooms are super UNcomfortable and in need of updating. Furnishings at least 30 years old, mattresses soft and over-used, paper thin sheets, old bedding, stuffy rooms with poor air... More

The Northern Lights Inn is, from what I’m told by locals and fellow travelers the best of the available options in the L’Anse au Clair/Forteau/L’Anse au Loup area. The hotel is about 20 minutes from the ferry located in L’Anse au Clair on the main thoroughfare in the community and offers a restaurant and bar as well as a gift... More

Everything is old. Walls have mis-matched paint touch ups, chipped paint here and there. Old scuzzy tile. Restaurant crazy over priced (boiled frozen carrots and scallop dinner (x2) + wine = $60. Breakfast for $10 was a good buffet with delicious potato fish cakes. Oh and it's a good thing we called to check if we could drink the swampy... More
