I've stayed at the Black Bear several times on business but keep forgetting to write a review. It's a combination of 2 storey motel and cabins close to everything in Port McNeill. It's sometimes hard to get a reservation during the fishing season so make sure to book ahead. The rooms are more than adequate and spotless clean. Kitchen table,... More

As someone who works on the road my connection to life back home is of the utmost importance to me. This means being able to load a webpage to email, Facebook, and chat with my family and friends. When your hotel advertises "free wifi" your customers expect you to deliver. When you cannot give them enough bandwidth to load a... More

We stayed here for one night on our way to Port Hardy - we were here approx. 7 years ago when this motel/resort was first opened and it remains the same a very nice motel, exceptionally clean, beautifully maintained and with friendly staff. The beds are comfy, heating excellent and the option of opening a window. We chose a downstairs... More

The Black Bear Resort is in a class of its own here on the north Island. The rooms are very clean and modern. Each have a microwave and a small fridge. There is a small pool, hot tub, Spa and an excercise room. Free wifi and satellite TV. Complimentary breakfast too! A restaurant just across the road was a plus... More

Very clean, comfortable motel style place. Situated on a hill overlooking the town and harbour. Walking distance to the water, ferry and stores. Friendly service from all employees. 4 barbecues available but stop in Campbell River or Courtenay to buy food because groceries are really expensive here. Our room had a small fridge, microwave, coffee, table and chairs. Exercise room... More

Stayed in a suite with full kitchen, well outfitted. Room was tastefully furnished, spacious and clean as could be. Separate bedroom was lovely. Quiet, clean and safe. Excellent accommodation at a price! Would love to stay here again and willingly pay the price for an exceptional local stay! Pt. McNeil is a small town but a hub for local outdoor... More

I stayed with my husband and my mother, our rooms were great they were clean, large and had what you needed and the breakfast had the basics that you would expect from a self serve continental breakfast. We would definitely recommend this place and will stay again when we visit Port McNeil.

This is a good hotel for the north island. Clean, quiet, well appointed. Your are not going to get anything better. The staff were friendly, and knowledgeable. Wifi was spotty, but it is all over the north island, and they do warn you about it. We decided to sleep in and have breakfast somewhere else. Nice to know there are... More

My wife and I stayed here durring the first week in July while in town to go fishing and site-seeing. We did not have with any prior knowledge or expectations of the hotel and were pleasantly surprised upon arrival. Coming from oil country in northern Alberta, we are used to much less for the same cost...or more. While the term... More

This site is very clean, well kept, good prices, the cabins are the best. I would not stay at any other locations in town as others are dumps. The cabins are great for two people, you are away from the main building.
