The Lodge is probably the best place to stay. Breakfast alone is worth the visit. Rooms differ and walls are thin. So if you are a light sleeper, come prepared. The general room is totally cool and has a fireplace, comfy seating areas and a deck. I spent hours just watching the eagles and ravens. One night we gathered driftwood... More

We visited in mid August, and the island was quite quiet. The welcoming atmosphere of the Alert Bay Lodge was wonderful. Ian and Sarah provided a great orientation to things to do and see in Alert Bay; their hospitality was extraordinary, personable, humourous, and very informative. Hard to believe this is their first season working their. The breakfats were absolutely... More

You will not find a friendlier or more comfortable lodging. Ian and Sarah were great hosts and did everything possible to make our stay as nice as possible. The beds are comfortable, the food is delicious and the common are is cozy with a great view. I have never liked bed and breakfasts but Ian, Sarah and Al

The Lodge is a wonderful old church with amazing scenery. The common room is excellent. The breakfasts were yummy. Sarah's cinnamon bread (2014) is so good! The rooms are good and clean, and rustic but you're in Alert Bay, which is off the beaten trail. All the amenities are there. (No spa...this is not that kind of town.) Stay for... More

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful stay at this lodge. The young couple Sarah and Ian were wonderful hosts. Sarah is an excellent cook. We had three delicious suppers, two of which were vegetarian at our choice. Sarah also made us excellent cinnamon french toast with real maple syrup for breakfast, at our choice. Merja still misses the french... More

We stayed in the family room which has wonderful views from the deck as well as from the room. We were warmly welcomed by our hosts, Sarah and Ian, who really made our stay feel as though we were with new friends. We walked into the beautiful main room for breakfast to fresh coffee and a lovely hot breakfast. It... More

This is a wonderful place for a relaxing, peaceful long weekend. It's true that it's not sleek and modern, but it's extremely comfortable, cozy, clean and well-run. The room we stayed in was clean and well-furnished and the shower was lovely. As we were only in the bedroom at night the darkness was very welcome - best sleep I've had... More

We stayed for 4 nights in this lodge. First impressions in the room matched first impressions as we landed on the island, ie. in desperate need of some money spending on it (especially having just left the up market city of Victoria). The room was dingy and tired, and a real disappointment was finding a plastic sheet over the mattress... More

We chose Alert Bay Lodge from the description on their website and the excellent reviews it had received on Trip Advisor. It sounded right up our street - quiet, hearty breakfast, excellent views, plenty of walking, wildlife etc. etc. Unfortunately this was not the experience we had. The island itself was quite derelict, with many businesses and restaurants closed down,... More
