After staying two weeks in Vancouver and Whistler, my husband, my 3-years-old child and I finally found a very friendly enviroment in Alert Bay Lodge. The managers, Marvin and Kathleen, are lovely people that made us feel as we were at home all time. I could have the best home-made breakfast of Canada, specially the coffee and hand made bread.... more

When life gets rough and all appears to be stress then this is exactly the place to be. The calming influence of the Lodge and it's managers, the effervescent Kathie and quiet, gentle Marv just makes things better. The views from the Lodge are serene, the peace eminating from the island is second to none. A wonderful, wonderful holiday. Thank... more

My friend Yoshi and I decided to take a trip to the northern end of Vancouver Island and spend a few days in Alert Bay. I had researched different accommodations. This one stood out originally because of the price. I wasn't expecting such an experience for $55 plus tax per night for a small room. The room I was in... more

My wife and I stayed at the Lodge for two nights in late April 2009. It was a very warm, friendly, comfortable kind of place, full of character. Everything was well organized and went off without a hitch. Our hosts were very hospitable and we thoroughly enjoyed their company. We will definitely stay there again and would have no trouble... more

I had the great pleasure to stay at the alert bay lodge several weekends in a row. The rooms were very clean and the service was absolutely excellent. The common area was very unique. The ambiance was fantastic and so relaxing next to a fire and nice music in the background. The morning welcomed me with coffee, juice and an... more

We travelled to Alert Bay to go on a grizzly bear watching tour (see my separate review for Tide Rip). Our experience was a mixed bag. We took the ferry from Port McNeill and weren't sure where to park as the closest lot was 5/day and the machine took only change. A "colorful" local suggested we park in the dirt... more

Our party of 4 ( all over 50 yrs) spent 2 nites at the Alert Bay Lodge and enjoyed the scenery and serenity of the location. Our room was spacious and clean and had a deck to ourselves, which we used to watch the sunset. Besides, the home made breakfast ( hot porridge and home made muffins) was just right... more

We went to Alert Bay simply because we had never been there - we are not hikers, kyakers, whale-watchers. I say this because Alert Bay is definitely geared towards these activities - there is not much else to do except enjoy the serenity and take in the beautiful scenery. When we arrived at the Lodge (which was originally built as... more

We stayed at the Lodge in September 2006. The Lodge is situated close to the shore and its spacious and comfortable lounge has a magnificent view from a wonderful arched window. We were made very welcome and the owners organised a whale-watching trip for us which was magical and will remain one of the highlights of my life. We hope... more

My husband and I stayed here for a few days and we were most impressed with the rustic ambiance of the Lodge, the service, the comfortable beds and the wonderful views from most of the windows of the Johnson Strait. We found the community of Alert Bay to be very friendly and welcoming to visitors. This is a little haven... more
