Just returned from a four weeks stay at the Mount Lavinia Hotel. We have been going to this hotel every year for the past 7 years and meet anumber of couples who go there every year. As usual we had a fantastic holiday. Very friendly staff. From the doormen, check in staff, restaurent staff and management. Always service with a... More

The Mount Lavinia Hotel is located well south of Colombo high up on a point thus offering excellent panoramic views. The hotel is a trifle old-fashioned but it provides average quality accommodation the sea facing room which I had requested and paid for was not available so I was put into ground floor room with a glimpse of the sea.... After traveling for 10 days we had looked forward to a few relaxing days on the coast. The location on the ocean is nice, but the rooms were terribly outdated, plastic shower curtain, dirty carpeting, just awful. We complained and we were given a better room. The railroad is directly behind the beach and trains run every 15 minutes!!!! I... More

This is a charming hotel with colonial grandeur, if a little bit frayed around the edges in places. Having stayed in other SL hotels we did find this one a little more impersonal but not unfriendly/unwelcoming. The place has real charm and provided an outstanding backdrop to the wedding. Our room was fabulous, a corner garden room suite with double... More

Yet again I arrive back in London after Christmas from staying at The Mount Lavinia, wishing I was back by the pool having a large Gin and tonic and feeling that sea breeze and hearing the palms trees swaying in the wind. There are so many good things about the hotel, and like a lot of other hotels a hand... More

Just back from a week at Mt Lavinia. Spacious room, great bed. View of sea from balcony. The food is superb. We had breakfast and evening meal in the hotel and most days had lunch at the beach shack. The staff couldn't do enough for us. Some guests have found the weddings intrusive but I felt they added to the... More

This was my second stay at this fine old colonial hotel and stayed at the beginning and end of a 22 night tour of Sri Lanka following England's cricket team. Yes it's a fair old bash from the airport and a good 40 minutes back into central Colombo but it's worth the effort. Mount Lavinia is an icon and it's... More

As regular visitors,we got to know staff, many of them old timers from colonial days,it's unique location by the sea, just 7 miles South of Colombo,it's very conveniently situated. Food is excellent although prawn curry does not seem to feature anymore for breakfast which I used to relish with the vast array of Sri Lankan dishes. Cleanliness and room decor had improved... We stayed for 5 nights half board in February. Ocean view room was lovely-comfortable,clean and the shower was excellent. Pool and terrace very nice but more umbrellas needed. Staff very friendly and professional.Service a little slow but always with a smile. Food is amazing-really worth a visit just for the selection of authentic Sri-Lankan food.

If you want well maintained rooms with streamline, professional service, you will find this hotel frustrating. Here's the summary: + charming period hotel with lots of history + private beach + fab views across the sea to central Colombo - Room felt like and smelt like a damp basement - no furniture on balcony - refurbed room ok - quality...
