The plan of lunch and beach works fine and since theres a long stretch of private beach its great for the kids to play undisturbed while the adults relaxed. Service was excellent even at the beach itself.

Stayed here 2 nights on the first leg of our Sri Lankan tour. We were given a beautiful room with a balcony facing the ocean. The room was spacious and clean. We spent the first day lounging around the pool. Ordered a club sandwich and some drinks from the pool bar. The waiter did not get the proper drinks however... More

LOVED our stay here. LOVE the old, 'antiquey' feel combined with classiness and modern amenities. Just the right mix! Breakfast is without a doubt delicious! Be it the traditional srilankan breakfast or continental. Never got bored because of all the choices! Loved the entertainment ie the crows and squirrels!:) The staff are all friendly, accommodating and make the extra effort... More

The hotel has a perfect location - bang on Indian ocean. It was the Governor's house during British rule and the Old colonial decor is well maintained. and the history. You can reach from your room to the beach in a couple of minutes with a perfect view of the marine drive. Trains passing by at regular interval adds to... More

I have stayed at many of the old "Colonial" hotels, this is wonderful, still not Americanised so you know where you are, the fans still whirl in the covered areas by the pool. The staff are magnificent and make you feel at home and work hard to fulfill your requirements. Simply wonderful....go back in time to old values but, still... More

Once again we returned to Mount Lavinia Hotel. This is one of the hotels I keep returning to. I love the history of the building and the fact that the hotel are continually improving so that it keeps it alive. Whilst there this year, they are renovating the Museum so that it will be there for all to see. The... More

We spent 2 nights here to relax as soon as we landed from London. It was so relaxing and the food was great. We were 20 mins from the city as well so we managed to do some shopping and eat out. Stay here if you have a chance !

Did not stay at the hotel but ate twice in the crab shack, amazing seafood and curry with fantastic New Zealand wine. 30 pounds s head for a great meal on the beach while watching the sun set. Had lobster and prawns, fabulous. The spa is also worth a visit but a bit pricey.
