Go back in time to the beginning of the 20th century under British Rule. Just far enough from downtown Colombo, but close enough for a short Tuk Tuk Ride. The pool is beautiful overlooking the Ocean. The breakfast buffet is enormous from Western to Sri Lanka dishes! Several wonderful restaurants just outside the compound. Suggest you talk to the local... More

A frequent visitor to the beautiful island of Sri Lanka and to Mount Lavinia House its only fair to share my experience of a great place to stay .... Mount Lavinia House is simply stunning! The first time I arrived in 2008 was a 'WOW'! moment ... such a stylish and individual 'Boutique Hotel'! This feeling has not gone away... More

My wife and I have recently returned from our second stay at this truly wonderful hotel and have now booked to return for a few days over New Year! We were this time in the adjacent apartments which were spacious and well equipped. The welcome was warm and genuine, the breakfasts lovely and dinner in the beachside restaurant was outstanding!... I stayed at Mount Lavinia House for 5 days in October and enjoyed the stay very much. The staff were welcoming and were very happy to prepare drinks and food, or its a very short walk to the beach and a great restaurant if you prefer - you have to try the battered prawns! The house is very stylish with... More

Me and my mum stayed here the first week of September, and upon walking in our first words were WOW! The house itself is beautiful inside and out and has been decorated tastefully highlighting the Sri Lankan art and cultures. The pool stretches from inside the main room downstairs out into the beautiful walled garden, allowing you to escape inside... More

Stayed 1 night instead of 2. We were in the house next to the main house, which felt very strange, especially since there were no other people staying throughout the hotel and the pool (looked unclean) and games (great!) were in the main house. The hotel has lovely furnishing, and the two rooms were actually a 2-bedroom apartment (convenient) but... More

We stayed at Mount Lavinia House for the first 3 days of our trip - in the suburbs of Colombo but far enough out to have that 'beach feel', though still urban. It is a small guest house, in a beautifully designed and maintained neo-colonial house, with a swimming pool which amazingly stretches from inside the house into the garden.... More

this is a beautiful colonial style building, which didn't compensate for the atrocious service, the room not being made up or cleaned, and no fresh towels. There wasn't even any soap in the bathroom. The room was beautiful but lacked furniture, apart from a bed, so there was nowhere to put clothes etc. They were very short-staffed and the young... More

When you return to your hotel at midnight 5 hours before you are due to leave the country and you find that your key is missing, there is no master key, all your luggage and tickets are in the room and you can't get in, you might be forgiven for panicking! While as a building, it is pretty unique and... More

We stayed here the first two nights of our trip to Sri Lanka and it was great – there's interesting architecture, with the swimming pool that extends inside, and a restful garden with sun loungers. Yes, there's a railway line at the end of the property but this will affect all guesthouses in the area and it isn't intrusive. The... More
