We first visited The Lion shortly after moving to the area. We thought the meal was fine although we had felt that "tumbleweed" moment as we first walked in to a very local's local. Having lived locally for 2 years we thought we should give it another try. We booked a table and on arrival advised the bar maid of... More

3 real ales. Cosy and popular with the locals. Very welcoming to non-locals. Lots of beams and flagstone floors. Very friendly landlady. Very good value rooms which are described as "nearly en suite". Beer garden and accommodation Some parking and easy access.

When we arrived the landlord was courteous and welcoming, there was nice log fire blazing in the bar after that everything seemed to go downhill. We were seated in the dining room with our drinks and then waited 25 minutes to be given a menu. We had drunk our first drinks by then and when my husband went for refills... More

We have moved from the Midlands to Montgomery just over a year ago and found this pub after recommendations from the locals and it has become our favourite. The new landlord ensures a lovely warm welcome every visit along with all the friendly locals and excellent bar staff and waiters. It has become a home from home throughout the year... More

We turned up last night out of the blue, and what a cheerful welcome we had - friendly staff, fire blazing and a really nice atmosphere. We couldn't fault our meals: the portions were generous, there were plenty of vegetables and lots of choice on the menu, to include some delicious-sounding puddings. The Lion Hotel is only two or three... More

We call at this lovely pub several times a year and always get 'a good feed' with plenty of chips and veg, well presented and good atmosphere. A roaring log fire is always a great welcome along with the staff and locals. New Landlord is a great guy with oodles of enthusiasm and treats us like old friends even if... More

Tucked away a mile off the A483 between welshpool & Newtown is this fantastic old pub! A warm friendly welcome awaits, along with a fine selection of beers and wines. The food is much better than your normal country pub fair with a price to suit every pocket. Recommended has to be one of the two steaks on the menu,... More
