This Inn is located close to downtown Winston Salem and is in a beautiful historic jewel. The surrounding area has been lovingly preserved and being there makes the Inn a worthwhile visit. The room have been lovingly restored and are comfortable. We stayed in the gun powder room. The bathroom could do with a new toilet seat. The shower runs very hot and then very cold .... my husband never did manage to get the soap out of his hair. Do not ask the host for dinner recommendations because he was of no help in fact he was pleasant enough but not the usual host full of tips and ideas for a visiting guest. And if he tells you not to go to the bakery ignore him. The bakery is charming and the cookies yummy. Skip breakfast. When you arrive there in the morning there is no one to

Dear Rozkan, I am so happy you liked the historic ambiance of the Zevely Inn and the character of the guest room in which you stayed. We greatly appreciate guests taking the time to give us feedback, whether positive or negative, and we take it very seriously. Our management team has discussed the points you presented and will work to improve upon the issues you noted. In the future, if you have a maintenance concern, please mention it to the Innkeeper who will be more than happy to have problems repaired. In your case the repair would have been immediate. Thank you for bringing those maintenance items to our attention, as they have now been addressed and corrected. It is a terrible shame that there was a miscommunication about the wonderful bakery! We love for our guests to enjoy their goodies, but in the late afternoon supplies are sometimes depleted at the local bakeries, especially on weekends, as they are so delicious and so popular. Evidently when you checked in on Sunday afternoon, the bakery had just let us know that their stock was depleted at that time. Fortunately it was restocked early the next morning! Winkler Bakery in Old Salem also has delicious cookies. It sounds as though you discovered them. Wonderful! We regret that you did not enjoy Matt’s popular Stuffed French Toast with Caramelized Bananas, Blueberries and Homemade Caramel Sauce. Please give us another opportunity to serve you something more to your liking. Please keep in mind that breakfast is from 8-9:30 on weekday mornings. As you have discovered, before 8 a.m., our staff is not always available to serve you. Thank you so much for staying with us on your recent trip through North Carolina, and we do hope that you will stay with us again. We loved having you! Kind regards, Anne Lantry President Zevely House Associates, Inc.

My wife and I spent 1 night in this historic inn which enjoys a central location in Salem Old Town. We had the Mary Malvinia room on the 2nd floor. It is a medium-sized room with very small en-suite bathroom and tiny tub with overhead shower. Another reviewer described Matt, the innkeeper as being aloof and distant, and we would agree that he seemed disinterested. Our welcome was functional rather than friendly, simply dealing with taking our credit card details. In comparison to the welcomes received at other B&Bs during our month-long trip through Georgia & the Carolinas, it fell way short. On the other hand, at breakfast the next morning, Harriett was charming and friendly ensuring that we had plenty to eat from the buffet-style breakfast provided and even offering

My family stayed here for Wake Forest Parent weekend and during the town's pre-Halloween celebrations. There was so much we liked about this 1700s bed and breakfast, but there were a few things that bothered us, so I was very conflicted on how to rate this nice B&B. I gave it 3 stars based on high marks for location, customer service and historic quaintness, but lower marks for amenities and a hot hotel room. I encourage other visitors who like history and period B&Bs to definitely give this place a try as it is a very good spot if you can overlook some issues. THE GREAT - 5+ stars for location. Easy drive to Wake Forest and downtown Winston-Salem, and if you haven't experienced the quaint 1700s village and town center of Old Salem (and Salem College), then this is the perfect

Thank you for taking time to write a review about our Inn. We take great pride in our Inn and work very hard to make sure all guests are satisfied and happy when they depart. Unfortunately, there are some things we need to work around in a 175 year old building. One of those things is toilet paper. We actually agree we wish we could use something different. We have tried every toilet paper on the market, but we have to use single ply toilet paper to make sure we don't have any plumbing issues. We have found the best quality single ply on the market and we will continue to look at new products, but we have to maintain the integrity of the pipes. As I mentioned to you about the heat, it has been warmer than unusual in the 3rd floor rooms. We are aware of the problem and try our best make guests comfortable. Again, with a 175 year old Inn, we have a 2 pipe system, which only allows for heat or A/C. During October weather is unpredictable and it can be uncomfortable during the transition period. I apologize for the discomfort. This year, the weather has been warmer than normal. We will continue to try and find solutions to this issue for early fall and again in early spring. Thank you for letting us know about the pillows. We want our guests to be comfortable and we have very high quality linens and towels for all guests. I have since replaced the pillows in that room and will continue to replace the pillows as needed. Should you have any needs during a future stay, please let me know immediately so that I am able to make you as comfortable as possible. I would have been happy to replace the pillows while you were here. Thank you again for letting us know about your recent stay at the Inn. Please feel free to call on your next visit to the area to see your son at Wake. I will be happy to talk with you and I will personally do my best to accommodate your needs. Have a wonderful holiday season. Thank you, Matt

Recently returned from the Inn where we stayed due to its proximity to Old Salem. The location was excellent. Right in the heart of the village and near the Tavern. Parking was on street or in a nearby lot down the street. Check in was very smooth and the room on first glance was very nice. After being in it for a while ( a basement room) it became apparent that it was getting cold and damp as the sun went down. The next day we had the dehumidifier connected and it was not so bad. Breakfast was upscale but our room was never made up. Manager was very aloof and just going through the motions. For the location and price it was acceptable for a night but I would not be returning.

New manager Matt, on the job less than two weeks, takes customer service to the hilt. From the preparation of stuffed French toast to the handling of questions, Matt makes sure that his customers are treated like guests. The historic hotel has the best location in Old Salem and is the perfect stepping off point for your exploration of this historic treasure.

My daughter and I stayed here for a night on an east coast road trip. Such a cute place to stay and the location for Old Town can't be beat. The staff/owners were friendly and helpful. The rooms were perfect and comfortable. The cookies in the evening were scrumptious and breakfast was yummy! This place was an easy walk to some great restaurants too. If we make it back to Winston Salem, we will certainly stay here.

It's only a foretaste, I know, but one could not hope for a more perfect environment this side of eternity; restful and rejuvenating! The roomy two-story L-shaped veranda is systematically swept with aromatic breezes that whisper the Moravian spirit of the first 1844 inhabitants as well as that of Linda Anderson, the ideal innkeeper. This bed and breakfast is just the right place for those who seek authentic history and a thorough recharge. Harriet ensures an extraordinary breakfast and "Q" maintains the cleanest of rooms. One can trust it to be a place of peace.

This is like staying in a museum. This is a beautiful old house. The bathrooms may seem small but remember the house wasn't originally built with bathrooms like these. It is a very relaxing and quiet place to stay. Linda is a great hostess. Harriet made a wonderful breakfast. She even gave us one of her recipes. They made us feel very welcome.

This was my first time at a B&B, and now I can see what the appeal. The Zevely Inn is right in the middle of Historic Salem. The Inn itself was beautiful, with a lovely sitting room and a quiet back porch for evening tea. The service was wonderful, and the breakfast was delicious-- the best breakfast I've had in a while. The owner wasn't there, but the deputy was there and she brought fantastic conversation. I really would recommend this to anyone who wants the full Historic Salem experience. You won't regret it.
