Stayed here with a group of car people in April. Jim and Mary were absolutely fantastic! They could not have made us feel more welcome. They sat around the bonfire with us each night, and were the nicest people we could hope to meet. This is an older motel, but they have done wonders with it! If you are looking... More

We went to cherokee for our honeymoon and stayed at the gear head. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the owners were extremely welcoming. The bonfire st night was a great way to meet new people. This will be our place whenever we go to cherokee!

This was our first time staying here, and we will be back. The new owners are in the process of remodeling the units, and so far they look great! The size of the rooms makes it so easy to walk around and not trip over anything. There are microwaves and fridges in the rooms and well as coffee pots. The... More

We stayed here for 3 nights. This is an old motel but the rooms are clean and spacious. Jim and Mary looked after us with coffee and muffins in the morning, bandaged me up from a fall off of the motorcycle, and campfire every night. The pool is nicely maintained.

On my way to a Hotrod show in Knoxville Tn, I spent the night at the Gear Head Inn, in Whittier NC, just outside of Cherokee Nc. It was one of the best stays I have every had. Jim&Mary were the best. They are Car and motorcycle people. They talk and treat you the way you like. When you pull... More

Spent 6 nights there in September. Mary and Jim are an awesome couple and provide incredible service. I will always remember the weekend evening campfire gatherings. Spacious rooms, clean and comfortable beds and a great location. They are very knowledgeable on all the local interests and best places to see. If you are a Harley rider, get the Harley Room!... We stayed here for four days in August, 2013 as the base for our mountain activities. GHI is located exactly half way between Bryson City and Cherokee, NC so it is very close to all the great activities in the area. We were 15 mins from Nantahala River for whitewater and zip lines. Bryson City is fun for shopping and... More

This place reminds me of the old motels that I went to as a child in the 1960's. Except that the owners are more like the proprietors of a really nice B&B. I gave it four stars, because the rooms were large, the bed was comfortable, the decor was funky 1960's and kind of fun for something different. The place... More
