I'd recommend the Kookaburra to anyone travelling through York. It's right in town, close to the movie theatre, the pubs and the shops. I took a walk along the Avon River, and across the swinging bridge, just at the end of the street. Facilities are clean and tidy, with a great breakfast included. more

I had heard that the Aussie hostels weren't as good as the N.Z ones. Not true!!! This place is amazing. From the very friendly owners to the free breakfast of eggs, good bread,real coffe, cereal and other yummy things it was excellent value at $25 a night in a dorm. What a fantastic place to stay - the Kookaburra is fantastic. The beds are so comfortable and the doona luxurious. The surrounds are brilliant - with a display of all things antique and unique. Stayed overnight in the Smith Room. Lovely historic, country atmosphere, comfortable room, friendly service and enjoyable continental breakfast all for an affordable price.
